I think it's time to start coldly considering the possibility that Putin is not in Ukraine to conquer it. He may be there to make limited terriorial gains in the east, and raze its major cities otherwise.

Reports out of Kharkiv and Mariupol seem to support this. It looks like Kyiv is next.
So what's the end game? They ve got more territory in the east and major cities are flattened, but VZ is in the power, is in Kyiv, alive. (Hopefully it stays like that)

With the help of Europe we can rebeuild the city. So lose-lose for Putler?

The more he battles on, the more Putin would seem to win in the short term, but lose in the long term

Ukraine will not accept loss of territory, so this may be pushed further

I don't think it is possible to occupy major city without that city ending up in ruins, especially not city of millions.
If they decide to take Kyiv and Kharkiv, its gonna be bloodbath

It's nihilism and targeting the general population in the way you propose is a deliberate crime against humanity. A Putin Ukraine will never accepted to those who prescribe to human rights etc.

BUT LETS ASSUME they did, how will Putin sell this to his populace?

He've gone all in, and couldn't take Kyiv or Kharkiv or Lviv and his country got isolated to the extreme. How will this be success in the eyes of Russian people, VP thinks?

Thats why I assume regime change has to be part of the equation as well.

But no 'deal' will occur anyway.

The Ukrainians would rather the country flattened than cede ground.

There again, so did the Chechen separatists, and even they were broken in the end.
