@Tin-Tin apologies for the harsh term, you are clearly not an idiot

I just feels posts such as yours inadvertently downplays how horrific it is what Putin's regime does and has done. Same as China, other de facto dictatorships etc.

You can fairly complain about things but you can do that knowing full well you will not face repercussions. That isn't the same as what happens there.

Of course im not comparing the atrocities over there for normal people who speak up, to our country. It was 1 article about women and children jailed for placing flowers, as it was considered a 'protest' and comparing it to what our current government want to do.

yeah the new bill - while some of it I agree with (a right to protest isn't a right to riot, and some people think it is!) I agree that it's very rich.

But I just hate comparing the two at all because it's different worlds. We're so, so lucky, we take it for granted. Not because our government(s) are amazing, but because we do not live under a rule of a de-facto dictatorship.

The West have let Putin get away with it for too long and now he's seemingly gone mad with a need to have some form of legacy.

Will soon have another North Korea on our hands. Putin needs bumping off as soon as possible as any sort of military intervention will only end up in some sort of nuclear exchange (IMO).
Given their size and location China’s response is going to be very interesting.

Do they still trade/supply Russia, just at robber baron rates, or do they decide to just stand aside and see what happens. Don’t even need to make it explicit it either, “technical difficulties“ and “supply constraints“ can gum uo the works for a while just to buy time to see what way the wind is blowing.

Watching newsnight now. The panic in the people in Kyiv is just horrific.

Something more does have to be done... it's horrendous, just horrendous. Pure evil.

And any tit trying to find justification for it on here can go and jump in the sea
They know it’s coming.

All the flag waving and social media sympathy and sanctions isn’t going to help them.

That’s the brutal truth I’m afraid.

I think China want none of this tbh, it just hinders them and how they react will certainly
Influence how the west deals with them in the future. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if they left Russia to it and continued as normal with everyone else, why handcuff yourself to a regime that offers nothing in return. I also think they’ll be as surprised as Russia are at the response of the west and may make them think twice about their stance on Taiwan, as in is it worth the hassle.

China is only arsed about China.

This suits them just fine as it is right now.

Having seen the sanctions brought against Russia they wouldn’t want anything like that to happen to them, and rightly so as they are well on their way to becoming a superpower themselves. Russia is a spent force, if it wasn’t for the nuclear deterrent I’m sure the Uk, USA, France et al would have annihilated the russian forces in Ukraine by now. And that’s only with Air Power and the respective navies, we wouldn’t even have to put boots on the ground as the Ukraine are holding their own as it is.
