You seem to forget that countries wanted to join the EU and NATO. They have free determinism, which is largely what annoys Russia so much, as they only hold influence via force.

Exactly, if Russia wanted to form a regional development fund to help increase living standards in Russia and in surrounding countries (Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia) akin to the EU, attitudes towards the Russian state might be very different. The fact is they don't. They simply don't do a great deal to increase prosperity in places like the Ukraine. Russia is a generally poor and corrupt nation without the means to do that.

Ukrainians look across borders to countries like Poland etc and see how living standards have fastly improved over the last couple of decades.

Granted, there's a few variables that also come into play (Ukraine is a very corrupt nation and the mafia have an influence on daily life). But EU membership is seen as a very real possibility and membership is proven to increase living standards in such scenarios.

Ultimately, what people want is a prosperous, safe life with good living standards. The EU offers this, Russia doesn't and never will.

It appears last night that Ukraine launched its first coordinated Bayraktar & infantry attack on a large Russian column near Sumy. Looks like it was a slaughter - casualties and numbers of vehicles destroyed are unknown at this time, but it looks like both of those numbers will be high.

Russia still doesn’t appear to have an answer to these drones. They are wreaking havoc.

It’s reported as being near Bishkin, north west of Kharkov.
