I don't care what you say about me. Just don't come in here with Kremlin talking points (easily debunked ones at that) and tell people you aren't agreeing with them.
Not kremlin. The usa, its history and present foreign and demostic is clear as day. And undeniable.

I know nothing about this but surely they don’t have a case with a big red button in it with launch written on it. It must be quite a process to actually launch a nuke. Maybe Putin gives the order but then there must be numerous people who need to set the whole process off??
Maybe, if it came to it, one of those people could say sod it I am not firing ?
I’m pretty sure you are correct.
The case is surely propaganda

I’m terrified if I’m honest.

Do I think he’s mad enough to self destruct? Yes.

He has stated that he considers Russia more important than anything else.
This is the scariest the world has been since the 80’s.

But he sort of has to say that, doesn't he?

There's sod all point having a nuclear deterrent if you then declare constantly "Ah yeah, but I'd obviously never go through with it!", or if you take it off the table when things get sticky.

For context, Russia's nuclear deterrent is currently at the state of readiness it works on during NATO exercises. It's troubling, but not panic-worthy. I also like to believe that, if it came to it, there would be somebody in the chain would just go "Nah".

I would suggest taking a look back on actual WW2 history. That just does not describe at all what the situation was then and what Russias experience was. Russia was an aggressor in WW2, they were fake best buddies with Hitler as they wanted to expand westward and basically wanted to divy up eastern Europe with Germany(until one of the two of them decided it was time to take everything). As soon as Germany started WW2 Russia eagerly jumped in with them and thought they were going to have a great time.

It wasnt until later that they turned traitor on eachother(probably always planned, but it was about who did it first). Germany and Russia were co-conspirators early in the war and only direct enemies later in the war.
And...........?

As far as Russian people are concerned, Germany attacked them, invaded huge areas of their country, and caused the deaths of 20 million or more Russian soldiers and civilians, together with massive destruction. I'm not remotely saying that this is right, or even rational, but there is this widespread feeling in Russia, I believe.

It makes me wonder if offering NATO membership to Russia would be a viable option.

The rules on membership would need to change - remember that Ukraine were told that they could not join until a number of reforms were made in their own country and corruption was tackled, so I'd imagine Russia might struggle to meet the existing criteria. But once joined, how could any Russian rationally maintain that they feared invasion by a military alliance of which they are a member?

Mind you, Russia would have to abide by NATO rules about things like not randomly invading your neighbours for reasons that are flimsy and fictitious, so their current leadership would have some homework to do.

Putin has raised the prospect several times with multiple US administrations.

And ..
Now Putin has made the very same country that hasn't really bothered militarily for decades , change course and pledge to be one of the biggest spender on there militarily on the planet.
Well done what a genius.
Russian were the aggressors with Germany at the start of the war , and ended up doing what they started out to do at the beginning which was to carve out more land to the west but on a bigger scale than they set out for in the beginning.
Did the same in the east and took parts of what used to be china
If Hitler had held back on attacking them , they would have happily watched as Hitler took over western Europe
Russia looks after its own interests first, well its leaders do, and always has done.

Mate you are able to invade countries for flimsy excuses and later exposed as barefaced lies in NATO. Russia would be sound on NATO.

Heck you can even bomb 5 different countries all unrelated to each other all at the very same time as a member of NATO. Via drone of 90% civilian death rate.

Come to think about it. Russia need to step thier game up if they were to join NATO.

Missed this yesterday, thankfully our lot are not getting much air time as our media are having to listen grown-up Governments for once. But this is a damming indictment of universal education when a rank idiot such as Truss can come out with such dangerous dribble yet still rise to high office.

Are you trying to be edgy ?
