Concerns grow over possible Russian sabotage of undersea cables

The United States has recently detected indications of increased Russian military activity around key undersea cables, fueling concerns over a possible escalation in the Kremlin's hybrid war against the west, writes Aleksander Cwalina.

Time to take the locations of the cables out of public knowledge. Any time a new one is laid its not made public.

Ukraine understands that Russia is no friend and can't be trusted. Imagine living with the knowledge that state next door wants to eradicate you.

NATO already shares a massive border with Russia in Europe - it’s called Finland.

NATO won’t go nuclear first strike - it’s not in the doctrine. So Putin has nothing to fear about the existential threat to Russia. He’s just blagging as always. He simply wants the Donbas, the Sea of Azov, and a land bridge to Crimea.

Imperialistic land-grab, pure and simple wrapped up with the NATO expansion, Ukrainian Nazi excuses.

All Trump has to do is force down the barrel price of oil and Putin will come crawling in tears to the negotiating table.

Nobody should be saying that (and I don't think people actually are).

War is horrific and there's definitely been war crimes perpetuated from both sides - and it's why it shouldn't be happening, especially nearly three years after it started. I've seen Twitter accounts that show videos of Russian soldiers being blown up by drones and glorifying it. I've seen that shared by Evertonians. It's sickening. It's all horrific.

All that should be taken into account is that there's factors that have contributed to where we are now, and I'd argue a big reason why the war is still taking place is down to those factors. The US, UK, most of the major European nations shoulder their responsibility for that. Not all of the responsibility. There's nuance to be had, as ever.

Of course, it's easier just to go to the extreme view isn't it.
