Sorry to hear that. Let's see what happens next year then.
Wow. I'm not sure what I said to merit that passive-aggressive response. I suspect we are on the same side in all of this. I just find it hard to imagine Trump will be in jail when he is currently topping the opinion polls, including in a head-to-head with Biden. I mean, what's been stopping them jailing the crook up to now? Early days, but I come from a position where I thought it impossible for him to beat Hillary Clinton, so let's say I don't have too much faith in Americans doing the right thing this time. I mean, so much of the US media is already drawing weird false equivalences between Trump and, say, Hunter Biden, as if to prove they're all the same really.

I'll be delighted to be wrong.

Hilary Clinton was opaque and pompous. She disenfranchised herself thinking she was better than the common man and made fun of the southern states, and she was soundly defeated by a population that needed an adverse change from the politico's that came before her. Trump was that change and he catered to the masses by being an important kingpin in foreign affairs breaking down the good ol boy network. That was also refreshing to the common man. He had a excellent business acumen he lined himself up with the greatest financial minds to keep jobs stateside and reduce trade inadequacies with China providing tariffs in a competitive sense as they had been doing the same to the West for years. Gasoline plummeted. Most people saw a rise in their asset values as the markets took off with exuberance. But his flaw was overestimating his backers to approve of a schemed election with voter fraud. Then exciting a fringe element to overthrow the election and storm officials' offices. He crossed the red line just like Putin has. If the American people vote him in there will be a day of reconning and the US will become fractured.

further fractured*

and divvies bought the trump ticket because he wasn't a politician in the orthodox sense so he was seen as a means of kicking an establishment that had been kicking them for decades.

Clinton was just condensed dislike, populism shouldn't be a thing but human beings are human beings. Agree in the main.

I think that's right. The rancid old get should be in a prison cell by now but he won't be going in one, so all talk of him not being on the ballot paper at the 2024 general election is nonsense. The only question is who he'll face. Biden is favourite of course, but polling suggests that he's not who the Democratic base want. Any candidate other then Biden and Trump will be beaten, but if it's Biden v Trump - that's a toss up.

In the event it is Trump v Biden then Ukraine is going to be a major policy issue between the two. Biden's words today at the UN shows he's doubling down on Ukraine and he'll be bending arms on Capitol Hill for more financial packages for Kyiv. That'll play into Trump's hands who'll make, I would guess, noises in support of Ukraine but oppose big time increases in US tax dollars going into the struggle.

Once the starting gun goes off with the primaries in the new year attitudes to this war and US spending on it is likely to dominate proceedings and it'll be a key determinant of who takes the WH.

I agree with the Clinton thing and the dismissal of large swathes of lower income / poor Americans by self styled political progressives has often been absolutely disgraceful.

But excellent business acumen? Breaking down any old boys networks? It was nationalist populism at it's worst. There was no interest whatsoever in bettering the long term prospects of the 'common man'. The short term Wall St friendly noise he espoused was was aimed entirely at keeping the rich rich, bolstering his ego and settling personal scores at the expense of anyone who wasn't him.

I can see your side but as he assembled some of the best minds from Wall Street for insight It led to a period of wealth creation for many. What I meant from the old boy network was the previous Bush and Obama admins. Egotist yes and became his eventually downfall.
