I have to agree with you. India and China are the biggest winners of this war. Russia has made a calculated error in judgement.
Cheap Russian energy is only one part of it. With Russia's military exports likely to suffer, the growing industries in China and India will be licking their lips.

Russia will become more and more subservient even if on the face of it they'll continue to pump their chest and pretend they're imperious.

Erdogan says Putin 'seeks an early end to the war'

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin also "seeks the quickest possible end to the war" against Ukraine, but it will "continue for a long time," according to an announcement by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in an interview with PBS.

Responding to the host's question, Erdogan said that "only the leaders of both sides can say" when Russia's war against Ukraine will end. However, he anticipates the war will continue for a "long time."

The President of Türkiye stated that it was pretty evident that the war would last a long time, expressing hope for the war to end as soon as possible. He also mentioned that Putin was advocating for the quickest possible cessation of the war.

Erdogan also stated that Russia can be trusted "as much as the West" while mentioning that the West allegedly deceived Türkiye's long-standing expectations of joining the European Union.

"I have no reason not to trust them (Russia). Russia is as reliable as the West. We have been waiting at the EU's doorstep for the past half-century. And now, I trust Russia as much as I trust the West," he noted.

A morsel for Kev.

I think a deal on that basis should be the case mate. Both sides are staggering with the weight of this conflict and should be scrambling to the negotiating table.

Zelensky has just spoke of a deal at the UN just this last hour, but I doubt the nature of it will suit Moscow.

There has to be a third party that steps in and forces a deal. Only the US can drag Ukraine to the table and probably if China make it clear to Putin that a deal must be struck that'll persuade them or they'll fear isolation.
The US are using Ukraine as a cattle prod against Russia Dave, they may have the ability to end but they have zero intention of doing so.

Erdogan basically saying he knows it’s an indefinite war

And that it’s because the west refuse to negotiate

No clock just a fantasy by Russians for a hopeful capitulation. Which will not happen. Russia becomes weaker by the day.

Russia alone bears the responsibility for this war,” Biden said. “Russia alone has the power to end this war immediately. And it is Russia alone that stands in the way of peace.” Spoken moments ago.
This is great. But will he be in power to back it up? Or will Americans prove they are unreliable partners by electing Trump? The reality is the Ukrainians need to make as much gains as possible before the US election, because a Trump win changes everything. So, yes, a clock.

Zelensky at the UN just now:

"It is alarming to see how some European countries play out solidarity in political theatre", referring to announcements by Poland, Slovakia and Hungary to impose their own restrictions on Ukrainian grain imports.

I honestly don't see what he's trying to achieve there.

If I was a citizen of one of those countries - especially Poland and Slovakia - I'd be furious with him given the amount of help the Ukraine and its refugees had received.

That's a clueless way to build a united front.
He's absolutely right. The Poles and the Baltics demanded that ordinary German people pay through the nose for their electricity and heating by dropping Russian gas. 18 months later, the Germans have obliged and totally replaced Russia gas with that from other sources - with all the social pain that has caused, such as sky-rocketing bills. At the same time, Germany has taken in about a million Ukrainian refugees - second only to Poland, who are next-door neighbours of Ukraine. Meanwhile, when ordinary Polish people have to take a hit - such as their farmers - the Poles break European single market rules and refuse. Double-standards. Solidarity-a-la-carte. They have been rightly called out.

And do we have to mention Kaja Kallas again? The Estonian PM excoriated those who traded with Russia - only for her husband to secretly trade with them until recently discovered. Nothing to do with her, she says, a tad unconvincingly...

So how long do you say the Ukrainians have here before the Germans do …. Something? Not sure what exactly. Oh yeah vote in some spineless ‘Nazis’ - I think Meloni was a ‘Nazi’ as well wasn’t she ?

Trump will be in jail most likely. Anyway, I very much doubt he gets the nomination he collapsed last time and that was when he had minted backers for support. If you are right the clock starts over a year from now and a guarantee fleet of F-16's will arrive before then along with ATACMS which will move the needle for Ukraine. Crimea will be in play by the middle of the next year or so I am told.

I'd love to share your optimism, I really would. But I don't.
