I'm not being funny biut those MOD tweets are farce. Itls like Jihn Cravens Newsround level of analysis from when I was a kid.

I saw a report a few years back that found that kids who did not watch and learn from John Cravens Newsround generally ended up in jail or homeless. It was something like an increased probability of over 70%. Just goes to show the importance of learning and understanding the world to young minds.

Never saw Jihns one though, sounds a poor alternative.

the Ukrainian language is primitive, comes from villages and hasnt developed beyond its peasant-like origins.

it takes the form of an indigenous language, although I dont doubt like some Aboriginal languages it has a long history.

Thanks. A very good article. Interesting take even from right think tamks like Rand.

As the piece says, it is dismal that any talk of negotiations are seized on as appeasement. That has to change. And as one Ukrainain commentator stated, the time iot changes is when every person in Ukraine has suffered a loss of some sort...and that cant be too far off.

Ukraine's corrupt political class have let their people down. They continue to do that as long as they're getting arms and public support in the west....the west who's only worries are to keep inflation down and keep their plates piled high and cookers and heaters on in the winter.

How did this anti inflationary dogma work

No it doesn't make it right, but it makes it the reality.

My take on this is that it's all well and good people on the sidelines in the west talking up 'sacrifice' and 'victory' and denigrating talk of peace, but when they're in no danger from this war then that's a luxury they can afford. Ukrainian bodies are being piled up in the hundreds in massive mortuaries and I find it a macabre spectacle when I read people wanting them to be topped up even more with a continuation of this meat grinder.

The reality is what it is; there will be no breakthrough Russian lines; there will be no 'victory'. It's what happens when a military super-power is challenged. It shouldn't happen but there it is. Realpolitik.

It comes to something when you start to wonder if Trump geting elected again might have any sort of upside to it if he got in and put this to bed.

That's how desperate this situation is as a humanitarian catastrophe.

Oh and the US in every war they’ve fought since Korea…

This is worth putting in here and not the China thread. Russia/Putin has been stupid in 1) becoming dependent upon China, and 2) showing China (and the world) that the idea of Russia having a world class military is a myth.

But China aren't claiming ownership of Cornwall or the like. They, China, will have a hungry eye on resouce rich areas of the old Mongol Empire and Russia (Putin) are setting themselves up nicely to see areas seeded and consumed.
