It's a war of attrition.

Bed wetters in the West need to hold their nerve until the Russian economy is broken or their people wake up to what they are supporting.

As long as Ukraine are willing to fight they have my support. However tough it is for us with cost of living etc they have it tenfold.

This war will decide what happens in Europe for the next hundred years. Anything less than a defeat for Russian imperialism will be a crushing blow for freedom across the continent.

Erm, no, only since Stalin moved Russian people there en masse "Population transfer to Soviet Ukraine occurred from September 1944 to April 1946 (ca. 450,000 persons)". Doing the same thing in 2014 and also arming them under the guise of "independent militia" is fooling no one (or so I thought)
You'll be telling me Benidorm is England, Southall is India and Boston is Latvian next.
it was literally part of the Russian Empire before the revolution, with every major city being a Russian speaking majority, so not sure why you think the history of 'Russification' began only after ww2

Might makes right then, Dave? That's an interesting precedent.
No it doesn't make it right, but it makes it the reality.

My take on this is that it's all well and good people on the sidelines in the west talking up 'sacrifice' and 'victory' and denigrating talk of peace, but when they're in no danger from this war then that's a luxury they can afford. Ukrainian bodies are being piled up in the hundreds in massive mortuaries and I find it a macabre spectacle when I read people wanting them to be topped up even more with a continuation of this meat grinder.

The reality is what it is; there will be no breakthrough Russian lines; there will be no 'victory'. It's what happens when a military super-power is challenged. It shouldn't happen but there it is. Realpolitik.

It comes to something when you start to wonder if Trump geting elected again might have any sort of upside to it if he got in and put this to bed.

That's how desperate this situation is as a humanitarian catastrophe.

wasnt aware there was a majority of citizens in any part of those countries that wanted to rejoin the UK,
Doesn't matter in a soverign state with internationally recognised and legally defined borders. Especially when an aggressive neighbouring state is actively seeding proxies and instability in a region it wishes to invade and occupy - and as has been established purely to plunder resources.

the surrender will never come unfortunately, I have already described this afternoon the rabidness of the mind of the western Ukrainian. It must be subjugated so that Russia has some security on its borders.

There isnt a border in existance that hasnt been drawn in the blood of people.

Kyiv is literally known as the mother of Russian cities. It would have made more historical sense for Kyiv to take St Petersberg and Moscow back. Not sure why anyone would think history only exists after the eighth century.

Even going back to the earlier level of fighting pre-invasion would represent a peace of sorts if Russia are left to their land corridor to the Crimea.

And before that? Ukraine has its own history and is not Russian. Ukrainian is actually an older language than Russian

WHat sort of "peace negotiations" do you imagine Putin will embrace??

As said above: Crimea kept and a land corridor to it in place, and what they have in the east they hold.

The Ukraine can win the peace if they cede territory.

It's abhorent for those made refugees from those places but short of full NATO involvement that will be frozen in place in any case, so save lives and reconstruct the vast majority of Ukraine.

Bullies win all the time. Ask the United States about that and other imperial regimes down the centuries, including the British Empire.

It is what it is, as the saying goes. Saving lives is all that matters now.

Not true, my Spanish Skype mate, in Benidorm told me that the British have so far only invaded the New Town and the native Spaniards are fiercely resisting the attempted British invasion of the Old Town.
