Maybe, I don't predict with any degree of confidence that a stalemate is the ultimate outcome but it's still the most likely of all outcomes. Sure, Russia has been aggressive towards Ukraine. I wouldn't deny this. My earlier statement that a neutral Ukraine was easier said than done was a criticism of both sides. Both sides want Ukraine leaning towards them politically. Both sides were upto allsorts of no good in Ukraine in the last decade or two. If we in the West wanted a peaceful Ukraine leaning towards the West we sure as hell helped screwed that up.

100% proof that you have absolutely ZERO idea what the f*** you are on about.

Things such as the attempt to join NATO in 2008, which was backed by the US, though ultimately thwarted by Merkel. However, it should never have been proposed. What was thwarted by Merkel in 2008 may not have been thwarted in later years. Western domestic political interference in Ukraine, plus arming Ukraine to the eyeballs in the years before the recent invasion by Russia. None of this helped the situation. None of this is particularly controversial. George Kennan, the ultimate cold warrior, warned of the dangers 30 or so years ago.
Merkle East German heritage (Russian Puppet)

Genuinely feel embarrassed for people who spout right-wing conspiratorial nonsense about NATO expansionism and Ukraine needing to "pursue a policy of peace" instead of fighting for their homeland.

If Vlad has such a problem with NATO, why doesn't he attack a NATO country? Estonia is right on his doorstep - can't be too hard, right? We all know why... because the bloated old ballbag knows that his tinpot army of fascists, rapists and mercenaries would be utterly annihilated by NATO and shown up for what it really is.

How have we screwed it up. We didn't invade them. Your hero did. Ukraine will be an adversary that you won't forget any time soon.

Why? You don't think they can defend themselves? Or you mean that they would have to pursue a policy of peace instead of war?

I must have missed my own comments on that scenario. Why do you thirst for more blood? You do deserve blame for your continued support for more suffering and the pointless killing of people.

Throughout this whole thread where have been the voices for peace? I tried myself a few dozen pages ago, but still the consensus seems to be more blood, more blood, more blood.

Sometimes you need to have a small world example of what’s going on. You have two neighbours, one nice, one perhaps not so nice. Your not so nice neighbours breaks into your home, kills or steals your kids and completely trashes the place. Then they tell you that the lounge, kitchen and dining room belong to them. Your nice neighbour provides assistance by way of baseball bats. You force your bad neighbour out of the dining room but they still have the kitchen and lounge. They then glue the plug in the sink and turn on the taps and flood the kitchen. More baseball bats arrive some with a longer reach and you try to regain the kitchen. Now, what negotiations would you have with your bad neighbour…maybe offer up the lounge in exchange for peace and quiet or perhaps kick them out of the kitchen, the lounge and the front door. I would be seriously interested in what you would do next…..

I said 'if we wanted a peaceful Ukraine tilting towards us we have screwed it up'. One way we can be argued to have screwed it up is by being provocative in the region. I have said nothing about Putin. He's a dangerous, authoritarian megalomaniac. However, he's also carrying out a geo-political agenda that has been Russian policy for centuries. What he has done should be a surprise to no-one. It's something most Western foreign policy eggheads should have predicted. At least it's not totally out of character that Russia feels threatened by a Western backed Ukraine. If I know this some foreign policy graduate from Harvard should also have known it.

Tbh , I too suggested this may happen with the inevitable expansion of the EU, and one of the reasons I wanted to be no part of it. But however I posed a very simple example and I really would be grateful for your views or from toffee…..
