Yet others consider that Bakhmut will fall within the next few days?
Don't think anyone knows for sure what's going on in Bakhmut. It's a complete hell-hole. What is known is that the Ukraine still hold the centre with Wagner/VDV closing in on 3 sides. there's one road in/out that Ukraine controls but its under Russian fire control. Every metre of ground is contested.

Bakhmut has no strategic importance to either side. Looks as if Ukraine is simply holding on, pinning down Wagner and VDV forces whilst preparing for its own counter offensive.

Hearing now counter offensive will strike at Wagner and leave them decimated. I think this is definitely ground zero as both sides are losing many troops in the battle for Bakhmut.

Ukraine seems to holding the centre with Georgian legion/Foreign legion/Second-line troops. Whilst its armoured strike brigades are being held back. Looks very much like a completely non-strategic point on the battle-map will have far reaching consequences on the overall outcome of the conflict

Zelensky still adamant.
I get the impression that there's some misinformation coming from the Ukranian side here in an effort to create confusion about their intentions. Doesn't seem like it's in their best interests to signpost their intentions to Russia - ideally they want Russia tied down in Bakhmut for as long as possible and draining their resources and manpower.

It may have no obvious military strategic importance, but politically it has strategic importance. I think I read that Ukraine are killing 5/6 Russians for every 1 of their own, so it’s a great place to decimate Russia even if it’s just killing off all of their convicts. A win for Russia there bolsters Putin and allows Wagner to claim glory although at great loss, Ukraine will just fall back and focus somewhere else, a loss there will possibly do in Putin and almost certainly Prigozhin…

There is some strategic importance, but most is symbolic.

Like Lysychansk to the north, Bakhmut is a key hub for the road/motorway network in the region, with major routes passing through or nearby to the city.

If Russia wants to advance quickly, it'll be in their best interest to seize the city, and likewise for Ukraine to push on it's best to hold the city. This is a key factor.

Right now, Russian troops are being thrown in the meat grinder, which is giving time for Ukraine to prepare defences and/or prepare for an offensive.
