It’s common knowledge that putin had planned to instal his own Russian aligned government once they’d claimed Kiev. They’d also already installed russian teachers,economy, flags and literature in many of the towns they’d claimed. It’s clear that Ukraine would not exist if they’d been victorious, not as we know it at least.

Regardless of the past 20+ years, vlad was/is on a mission here and absorbing Ukraine (possibly other talked about nations also) was clearly the plan.

To add, trump had no appetite for war, China and Xi knew this. They did what they wanted for most of his tenure. What do you honestly think trump would have done in bidens situation?? Nothing is what

Again though - how likely is that scenario happening if he had taken Kiev straight away and the current government had fallen / fled? It is worth pointing out that he didn't annex the DPR / LPR at the start of the war, just recognized them.

He has stated it many times. Ukraine is Russia as are many countries in NATO presently. Putin believes this and so do his cronies. This is black and white. He hates the UK and US Because they stand in his Empire Building Strategy.

Lets say putin sees the light and concedes, drags his units out of Ukraine fully, gives back Crimea, says he very sorry and promises to put right what he has destroyed.
Does it go back to business as usual? The gas and oil flow again and we all let bygones be bygones?
"I want russia punished but the cost of living means I'm more interested in being warm and being fed than I am in ideals of justice..."

What are we prepared to give and give up long term, where's the line drawn?

That's not my angle, it'll end one day, one way or the other. When there is peace again in whatever form, do sanctions stay in place? Are we looking at a new iron curtain? or is all forgiven and I can have cheaper kitkats with my brew at break?

The only way he backs down, is he`s deposed via a coup or he`s given an " out ", so he can claim some kind of " victory ".
