Isn’t retuning to pre-2014 status precisely what Ukraine want?

The idea that if that offer was on the table we wouldn’t take it is beyond parody. It would achieve the West’s strategic aims and save tens if not hundreds of thousands of lives. It would be an utter humiliation for Putin and Russia, too (which is why they won’t offer it).

Wasn’t the apparent peace deal floating around last year something like:
- Ukraine gets full control of Luhansk, Donbass and all occupied land.
- Crimea stays with Russia but the naval ports are demilitarised
- 12km demilitarised buffer zone on the border
- Ukraine joins EU but not NATO

I honestly think the west and Ukraine would take that right now.

I think we have crossed wires. My point is that Russia will never go back to pre-2014 while putin is driving things. Obviously the west would jump at it
