As of 2 November 2022, Nord Stream AG has completed initial data gathering at the location of the pipeline damage on Line 1 in the Swedish exclusive economic zone.

According to preliminary results of the damage site inspection, technogenic craters with a depth of 3 to 5 meters were found on the seabed at a distance of about 248 m from each other. The section of the pipe between the craters is destroyed, the radius of pipe fragments dispersion is at least 250 m. Experts continue to analyse the survey data.

That is a lot of officers to lose...although they have always been heavy on the officer numbers relative to the West, due to conscription and the lack of long-term enlisted personnel. When junior officers are doing stuff that senior sergeants do in other countries, they end up in the line of fire.

Those general officer losses are concerning from a Russian perspective, seeing how the United States lost a total of 40 or so flag officers in all of World War II and a decent fraction of those had ships sunk out from under them.

Honestly, its not the Russia-Ukraine war that I think is going to elevate to a World War, because its the last thing Putin wants and he knows they would get crushed. Its the other countries looking to use this time as an opportunity, that all of the sudden drags everyone in and gets dictators scheming. Serbia-Kosovo while small could drag a lot of countries in. Suppliers and those pitted against them could get into a war, such as Iran-Israel, if one side views the other as having crossed a line. And the biggest is maybe China eying up Taiwan this winter or next spring, trying to take advantage of the world and resources being distracted elsewhere. Once another war or two happen then there are so many more involved countries, and more likely to be what people later call World War 3.

I think the only saving grace on that front, is Russia has been bled dry by their attempted invasion of Ukraine, and their allies have felt it too.

I'm not sure it's in Chinas interest to invade Taiwan any time soon.
I'd definitely be concerned with Israel/Iran if Bibi gets back in to power and the Mullahs are looking for a distraction from domestic upheavals.

Watch for Saudi Arabia and Iran first absolutely hate each other. This will reach a tipping point.
