Just reading a short profile of him

His stint at the air force doesn’t seem to have paid many dividends but suppose was relatively short tenure and not his area.

Problem being the way the Russian command structure works, is as airforce commander he'd be subject to the commander of the SMO to a great degree. And my guess is he'll have been wary of committing too much of the air power given the commanders in general where a bit incompetent.

on a pure tactical pov I'd be very surprised if we don't see some major changes in the way Russia start doing operations.

Just look back in the thread, the resident Call of Duty players were all over it being Russian missiles fired. And as you say he Russian army is a joke, yet they apparently are a danger to Poland and the Baltic States and Finland and Sweden are so scared they've had to join NATO in fear of Fred Karno's Army. Couldn't make it up could you?
The Baltic States, Finland and Poland are probably scared of what Russian troops would do to civilians in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland and Poland.

Whilst the invasion of Ukraine has cast doubt on the combat effectiveness of Russian infantry against trained and equipped Ukrainian infantry, there's absolutely no doubt that even the newest Russian conscripts are effective against unarmed POWs, women, little kids and the elderly.

On a more serious note, Russian heavy artillery, rocket artillery and missiles have been proven effective - see the strikes on the hospital in Mariupol or the train station in Kramatorsk as clear examples. It's entirely feasible for a nation's armed forces to be much more effective in one aspect of warfare than another.

Means I can read what a large part of the world thinks of the situation in the Ukraine and guess what, they aren't supporting the US narrative

I don't think tiny Solomon Islands are supporting the US.

If the US does invade will they send weapons to the Soloman Islanders?

When are the US going to send weapons to the Chagos islanders to halt the UK's illegal occupation of the Chagos Islands.

Or does the 'rule based international order' not apply to the US and the UK?

So how exactly does this shambles of an army find their way to the countries you mentioned. They can't even get a quarter of the way into Ukraine.

Pickled tomatoes! Never heard of this but have to find some now! Beetroot, yes please. Pickled eggs omm nomnom ? With chilli sauce ?

Apologies for taking the thread off track but how are the tomatoes done? I mean are they prepared in any way or put in to the pickle whole/fresh?
Whole and fermented is the way to go...

Just imagine the scenario were Mexico signs a military pact with Russia.

My understanding from the June article was he moved from the air role pretty early on in the invasion?

“In recent days, the Russian defence ministry announced that Colonel General Alexander Lapin was in command of the Central Group of Forces in Ukraine, while General Sergei Surovikin was heading the Southern Group of Forces during the invasion.…
The arrival of Surovikin, though, was a surprise given that he was previously head of the VKS, the Russian’s combined air and air defence forces. He is no airman. Until 2017, Surovikin served in the Ground Forces, fighting in the Soviet war in Afghanistan, Russia’s military intervention into the Tajikistan civil war, and then the Second Chechen War, where he was wounded in action. He has a reputation for extreme toughness: in 2004, one of his subordinates shot himself in Surovikin’s office after he had been chewed out.
