Can they? Depends on the west really I’d imagine. Should they? Absolutely. Would you just give up?

If "give up" means "enters into serious negotiations" then yes. Is it at all likely that even with further extensive supplies from the West (and I think that is doubtful for much of Europe and for us here, if perhaps not for the Yanks) they would be able to retake Kherson or Zaporizhia? The DPR / LPR? Crimea?

At some point all wars end, usually with a negotiated peace. This is no exception and talks must take place urgently.

As do I. Yet, on the other hand, for Ukraine to win this war and retain their sovereign territory there'll be Russian troops who will be injured and killed.

Likewise, the Russian population are going to endure suffering due to the restrictions placed on the country, and the subsequent fall in living conditions.

Some may say it's glorifying and celebrating pain and misery, which it is not, but for a suitable end for all concerned it's a terrible necessity - that's war.

Enough of the Russian people have lauded over Putin, and this is an outcome. The needs of the many springs to mind rather than a binary view of this war.
Unfortunately that is the nature of this, many people will die on both sides and you just have to hope at the end some good can come of it all so it is not in vain.

The Russian people did not care about this war at first, like most of us, we thought it would a short relatively easy operation. Now they have vastly overinflated their capabilities it’s all coming home to roost. I don’t think anybody is celebrating this mate, I’ve been on ops when we’ve lost one of our aircraft and the effect it had on us all was truly awful, I cannot imagine how the forces on both sides of this feel. The normal people of russia are going to suffer now because of the actions of their government. The people of Ukraine are suffering because of this too. It’s an awful situation.

I’m all for serious negations, they should be happening right now. I don’t think Ukraine have made any secret of how they are relying on the west to support this war, but weather the key players actively want peace right now, who knows. I hope it’s over sooner rather than later.

It is going to be a hard slog to undue the spread of autocracy pushed by Putin, and it is clear that the world will have to go through some pain to unpick his (and Xi) work, but it will be better for it on the other side.

It is sad for poor Ukraine that they are the frontline for this global problem but the fact that they are is why there is a steadfast determination to support them toward victory. The alternative and a continuation of the malevolent tinkering from the Kremilin will only lead to bigger problems in the future.

Neither do I; my point was that perhaps other people (posters) confuse wanting a suitable resolution to this conflict as being celebrating and promoting death.

There has to be a means to an end.

The ceasefire in the Korean War appears to be holding at the moment, but maybe it's too soon to tell yet. Well cut and pasted though, but maybe you need to send a few private messages to the group, they'll give you some tips on the acronyms that are currently on trend.
Just make sure you don't divulge too many state secrets on a football forum though.?
At this point, you have delved the depths of the adjective 'pathetic' in response to pearls cast before swine.

I appreciate the effort, though. If you ever grow up and teach a subject, what you will learn is that you don't truly understand a subject until you have to teach it to others. It turns out that the most pig-headed of pupils are the ones who stretch communication abilities the most, as they require the clearest of communication. The real dunce pupils are a blessing rather than a curse as a consequence.

Sometimes, though, I have been compelled to concede that a failure in communication isn't a 'me' problem. Obviously, you require a better  sensei on this topic than me, as I have pitched my best stuff and been found wanting.

Godspeed on your quest to get answers to your questions.

Imagine coming from Serbia, one of the richest areas conquered by the russians and having all its riches skimmed off to the Kremlin mafia and having to resort to this.

That's not the point.

You seem determined to undermine the opinions of others, no matter how convincing the arguments they present are.

You're like Dave in the stadium thread, why?

That thread probably has a few civil engineers, maybe 1 or 2 familiar with planning regs, definitely some with more of a clue than Joe Average about how big money moves around. It doesn't stop him arguing the toss about every fine point even though it's clear they know more errrrr, actual facts.

I couldn't care less if people have actual first hand knowledge or international relations and up-to-date military tactical planning or glean information from others to share.

That's how learning generally happens, you listen to people better placed than you on a particular subject.

I have no idea if posters are passing off posts as original thoughts, frankly I don't care. So long as its interesting I'll read it and take on board new information.

You're accusations of plagiarism are unfortunately, not interesting. Why should you care?

Ps..... That's me done on this topic. Don't expect a back and forth, it's pointless.
I don't care,it's the internet. And where have I accused anyone of plagiarism, cutting and pasting the work of others is just the day to day of social media. My standpoint on this thread has been consistent, the US using Nato and the EU are doing a good job of repairing a post Covid economy. Sadly innocent women and children are paying the ultimate price.
