Transfer Window Summary

6.5 out of 10. Sorry if we're rating out of 5! A bit more strength in depth but a much weaker starting 11 imo.

Keane and Mina are both good defenders and may work as a partnership in certain games but in others will be found out. Losing Gana on top of this situation is a worry. I have a sneaky feeling that Gbamin may end up being the Digne of this season and we will love him, but it will take time for him to settle. In the forward positions, Kean is a great signing long term, but we have to accept that the lad is 19 and it may take a while for him to really prove what he can do.

We are too light into the forward positions though. It was an either or for me. Had we have signed a Zouma but no forward player, then at least the defence looks solid. Had we have signed a Zaha but no defender, you would have to say that we would be so dangerous going forward that we would just have to hope injuries are kind to us over the season.

I don't think Brands is a walking God or anything, but we have certainly been more proficient with him on board. However, the end to this window is poor. We should have had some back ups ready to go. All down to Silva now to try and get them playing in a way that might hide our deficiencies.

I also think that even though he doesn't like the winter window Marcel will have to be wheeler dealing in January now.

Hopefully the likes of Martina, Bolaise, Niasse, Mirallas, are all moved on next week, though loans are the best we can really hope for.

I'd keep Schneiderlin at this point (doubt anyone would pay his wages anyway), Tosun aswell unless we get a decent enough offer or loan fee, Calvert Lewin has improved but still not at the level we need, and it could take time for Kean to settle in

I'm disappointed we didn't address CB. The waiting game for Zouma was a mistake and we will likely pay a price. They have shown a real efficiency in signing a lot of players, and there is no way CB doesn't get dealt with if we went with other plans as early as mid July.

As it is we will surely have to dip into the market for one in January.

Other than that glaring omission, we have done relatively well. We still lack depth but that is unavoidable for now and we addressed every other area insofar as could be expected. We are developing a youthful, pacy side and one that has changed so much in a year. The accountants will be happy given it has been done for no massive outlay and we should have scope to strengthen in January and next summer.

I guess people expect the summer window to fix every problem but that isn't possible. The amount of players we want to move on, and the amount we need on a defined budget makes it a difficult balancing act. Trying to plug so many holes is very onerous. Hopefully we fixed some problems at least. I particularly like Gbamin and Kean.

If we had just got a CB in though, this would have been a better window than last summer for me. As it is, it's good but not what it had the potential to have been.
Haha. Sorry mate I've just posted almost exactly the same thing. Wasn't plagiarising - honest!

Overall not great nor bad. We filled some holes, got rid of some deadwood (more to come hopefully) and that's it. Gbamin and Kean are unknowns so hard to judge, but we didnt make much of a progress. 7th place trophy is still our ceiling IMO.

The other thing is, I would like us to go back in January for Zaha to test the water. It's what big clubs do if they have failed to get their man. Didn't the RS do it with Van Dijk? Now we might have been told that's it for the season, but he's unsettled now, back in straightaway in January and (despite the usually inflated fees) I think we get him for roughly what we offered. Palace bring in a replacement too. If we do an Everton and act like gentlemen or with a small club mentality and he moves to Chelsea, Spurs or Arsenal in the summer

The centre back situation is unfortunate, but, it is what it is. For what it’s worth, in my opinion, we had some kind of a deal in place with Chelsea along the lines of us taking Zouma on a permanent deal if Lampard agreed to it and, if not we were to take Tomori on season long loan.
The unexpected situation with Luiz left us snookered.
Still happy with the window overall though. I’m delighted we did not chuck massive money at Zaha as well. Good player but just not worth 80 mill to us.

My best guess what happened at CB was that Zouma was 1st choice, but Chelsea took ages to decide whether they wanted to sell him or not. By the time they decided to keep him, Maguire signing for United made the market for CBs absolutely terrible and there was no value to be had at all. I mean what was Marcel going to do, sign Nathan Ake for 75 million or whatever Bournemouth was asking? Lewis Dunk for 40 million? Absolutely not, I’d rather sputter along for a few months and try again in January.

Good window. We tried hard to get Zouma and Zaha but wasn't to be so no point in sulking as all targets are not usually got anyway. The attempt is there to get top class in with no sign of fake bids. This will still take a while to build but great start by Brands in his short time here despite no offer of european football to our signings. We are getting a stronger, younger squad and adding pace with some experienced players and some good young players with the potential to grow and be better. I am happy with the way the team/squad is being built.

I think most people got whipped up into a frenzy and had high expectations due to the Zaha thing and Marco's constant need to tell the media how many players we need.

As Joyce has pointed out, we weren't really in for Zaha after the 1st bid and from what he wrote yesterday, it was Zaha who was pushing for the move.

Looking at the squad:

Did we solidy our defence? Not as much as we would have liked. (Sidibe as Rb cover, didn't replace Zouma)

Did we improve our attacking options? Yes (Kean and Iwobi)

Did we replace Gana and solidify our midfield options? Yes (Gbamin, Delph and Gomes on a perm)

For me its a solid 7.5/10.

A note for the pant pissers and Fifa generation is that you got well and truly played by Sky sources and yellow ties and any seasoned Evertonian could see that the dots weren't lining up.

When I qualified as a proper grade A, best degree you can get boss dancer at RADA I started my own tap dance school up and the person who is in the video is a good friend called Cuthbert Chits-Gallore who qualified from the rival school called LAMDA (look it up I ain't lying) . What he's dancing there is contemporary tap/jaz/rap which he learned at my Monday morning (50p if you bring a friend) class.

He's an Aston Villa fan so it's a shame to see the knobhead stoop so low in wearing a Newcastle shirt.

Kean makes the difference for me. I think he will be world class in 2 years. Without him i wouldnt be happy with the window currently. If we ship some more out to europe it will help.
