Transfer Window Summary

With regards to CBs, I think the Maguire move destoyed the market values for decent defenders. Of course, we should have got one in earlier but once that transfer happened I wouldn't be surprised if the prices on our targets all shot up and we weren't prepared to meet them for a back-up option to Keane and Mina (who have been good in pre-season).

Can we really afford to let anyone else go now? Mirallas and Niasse could go, but looking at the squad now I can’t really see how we could let the likes of Tosun or Snides go as we would be left a bit short.

Nice one @Bungle

I was worried that, when the window slammed shut, I wasn’t going to have sufficient reading material to accompany my toilet breaks but you’ve got me through my first post-window dump.

Got pins and needles in my legs, mind...

Always a nightmare when you stand up and your legs are dead, stumble head first into the toilet door with trousers round your ankles, very dignified.

Yes we could easily lose at least another 5 off the books, Bolasie, Niasse, Mirallas, Martina and Onyekuru as none of these will feature at all.

We won the 'but wait there's one more signing'.

in all seriousness I'm happy with that window. I've already spun Zaha into a positive as having a 80 million player would have been so much pressure from the off. I think we've got a good team to do damage from the shadows.

I'm disappointed we didn't address CB. The waiting game for Zouma was a mistake and we will likely pay a price. They have shown a real efficiency in signing a lot of players, and there is no way CB doesn't get dealt with if we went with other plans as early as mid July.

As it is we will surely have to dip into the market for one in January.

Other than that glaring omission, we have done relatively well. We still lack depth but that is unavoidable for now and we addressed every other area insofar as could be expected. We are developing a youthful, pacy side and one that has changed so much in a year. The accountants will be happy given it has been done for no massive outlay and we should have scope to strengthen in January and next summer.

I guess people expect the summer window to fix every problem but that isn't possible. The amount of players we want to move on, and the amount we need on a defined budget makes it a difficult balancing act. Trying to plug so many holes is very onerous. Hopefully we fixed some problems at least. I particularly like Gbamin and Kean.

If we had just got a CB in though, this would have been a better window than last summer for me. As it is, it's good but not what it had the potential to have been.
