These 2 questions. Am looking for current players that the criteria applies to

I answered this already -- you're asking me to name players ?

Very well, for 17mil were talking for these 2 i'd throw out off the top of my head the names who have been linked;

Phillips, Ince, Fetfatzidis + add Zaha Guidetti and the French kid linked today....vastly better to sign 4 of these lads than the 2 older players.

Rodwell could have been worth much much more if he had reached his potential.

What happens if all of these young players with potential don't come to fruition? They are risks, risks we can't afford to be taking.

If you dont take risks you dont make money.

Baines improved the side + Fellaini those are the young players who could be signed with similar fees. Who would improve the side no end.

Whats the guarantee signing these 2 would make champions league -- as UEFA league pays hardly anything.

And did Baines and Fellaini get the Toffees into CL? You see, sometimes you have to add the veterans to go with the younger guys to get somewhere. If we rely strictly on youngsters and waiting for them to develop, we're just spinning our wheels.

The problem however, and one that I'm sure you're aware of being a long time football supporter, is that it's an inexact science.

Show me a club who regularly churns out players from their youth system anymore. Ajax of the 90's used to but even now, very few clubs have a successful track record of doing that. It's a very hit and miss proposition with youth/younger players now and frankly, most managers at the Premier League level, whose jobs are under hourly scrutiny, aren't going to risk it.

So you can bet that while Moyes advocates the development of youth players, as do most all managers, they're going to buy the players that they think can contribute now.

Fellaini and Baines would be 2 examples of him buying when hes had cash....squads need a blend of youth and experience and we currently have a number of older players.....we need youth to bring the age down and pad out the squad.

Not only would a few young players bring this age down but they would also fill out the squad as we are wafer thin.

You simply MUST buy potential these days due to the cost of fully developed players.

Fetfazidis alone has been touted at 10m and actually has that buyout price in his contract.

That french kid is at a minimum of 5mil, stated in the earlier posts of that.

So Ince, Phillips, Zaha, and Guidetti will be coming for 2mil in total?

Guidetti was touted at 6mil by city. So it seems like a long shot.......

Depends if you want to stay in the build for the future mode and not want to compete at the present moment. I think it all spoke volumes when you get quality in the squad after our terrible start last year the youth couldn't compete and get the necessary results. A happy mix of experience and nurtured youth could do it.

Theres more than enough veterans in the squad...too many in fact !!!

Who will be sold to replace them Fellaini ? and then what we use the cash to replace fellaini and the older players and sign more older players then the cycle continues until theres no more young players to sell only has beens;.

Fetfatzidis is being touted apparently for 4-6mil. Buy out clauses mean nothing.

Ince / Philipps / Zaha / Guidetti 6mil each.

French kid is 5mil total with it being appearance based with a chunk up front.

So hypothetically that would be 3 players at their max prices. 4 if there are good deals made.

Diss Zat.

Hes obsessed with kids.

Check his post history, every single post is about kids.

GLITTER ALERT

Anyway, we wont be signing Dempsey, it appears the 9m "bid" was claptrap.

Its very likely we will sign Donovan tho, speaking as an Englishman, whos never been to America, this pleases me.

That youth had zero experience which was unfair on them.

My thinking is, Rodwell is sold = sign 2 young players with great potential in positions we need -- say Phillips and Ince.

In a couple of seasons one may become a good player and the other may be a squad player...both have values for resale.

Then we either sell the good player and sign 2 more young lads or sell the squad player and sign a younger player....

Continue the cycle until we unearth a diamond.

Alright that seems sound.

But back to the original issue, we don't have 17mil.

Also, as TX Bill pointed out, Donovan isn't being touted at 8mil. Just keep that in consideration.

When you bring in 3 or 4 youth like that, and one comes good, it makes up for em all. But if it comes down to just taking 1 of them, it becomes an even bigger risk. Is it worth our transfer kitty to risk "everything" on hoping one player with potential comes good or to have a player who is almost certain to work (donovan: saying he wouldnt work now after working so well the first two times would be a bit naive) and make a positive impact on the first team right now?
