Player Valuation: £100m
Landon + Dempsey = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0z_Qqnq8pI8

What a disaster this would be. Is it the Americans on here throwing these names around as being 'good' signings?

What exactly would be the point of signing stopgaps like these for a couple of seasons for serious cash and big signing on fees + high wages ?

In a couple of seasons would have;

Distin
Neville
Donovan
Dempsey
Hibbert
Osman
Pienaar

Who would ALL need replacing with NO MONEY. This would lead to Fellaini / Barkley / Baines or whoever else being sold in order to bring in replacements....

And why on earth would this increase marketing revenue -- the same way we got great cash with Kejian or Chang ??? The same way Pienaar makes us serious money from South Africa ??

Both have atleast 4 years in them left, both are proven in the premier league and both have shown that they are quality in the premier league. Signing them means we get abit more attention from the US having 3 of their biggest players, it also improves our 1st team and our squad also, and improves Evertons profile abit at the same time.

Better than going after another Bilyaletdinov and finding out he can't hack it in the league

I dont think we need to sign demsey.. Landon would be worth it though, could be moved to the middle later and is more technical so will last longer

Donovan will not cost big money or be on big wages. He loves it here and would have very reasonable demands of the club.

I don't know about Dempsey's wage or fee. If we are in a bidding war with the ****e or others, then we should bow out immediately. However, if, like Donovan and pienaar, he makes it clear that he wants to play here, and it isn't about big money, then sign him up too. Dempsey made it clear this last year that he wants to leave fulham for champions league football. Obviously, today, that is not us, but maybe Donovan and Howard have convinced him that we are a club with ambition and with him, we could kick on and they could reach CL together.

Of course, I don't know this. I'm not sauced. I'm hopeful for Donovan, and I like the idea of getting Dempsey too as long as the wage is reasonable. We are a piece or two away from being a CL team. We can make a run this year and next at something special with minimal investment.

I think moyes may be thinking the same thing. And if it fails, moyes could bail, take the reigns at united, and our team rebuilds for a couple years.

VERY short term.

...yes, because we always buy younger players who play immediately and then sell them on for a big profit to the highest bidding club.

For the record, they'd both be good signings as football players (since if you weren't aware, that's what Everton is known for).

If your main criteria for purchasing a player is age and potential for selling down the road, then I'd suggest you're in the wrong arena.

Try the stock market.

Either way we need to bring in someone who can play on right. Donovan would make the most sense, even if we only get two decent years out of him.

So you'd advocate throwing money away to sign 2 American players because you're American and want to watch Americans at Everton -- is this about right ?

Then in a couple of seasons the squad is top heavy will old players who arent good enough.

That's a bit harsh.

Remember Paul Gascoigne and David Ginola?

Mate, let's be clear here.

If you don't think Donovan or Dempsey could add something to Everton, then you've been living under a rock for the past three or four years. Do I think we need Dempsey? No. Donovan? Yes.

I don't care if they're American, Australian, Austrian, or from Macedonia. All I care about is if a player we sign contributes to us getting results on the pitch.

Both would do so.

Exactly !! I think the only people who want these signings are Americans.....for those of us whove had the misfortune to watch the above 2 plus Mark Hughes etc I want to see young players who improve with the club and last a decade -- or be sold so we can further boost the team.

Do Americans have salt on there popcorn as well as having it sweet??

i think Moyes is looking at this season not the future, Dempsey is a great buy to replace Cahill and we all know what Donovan is like

Always looking ahead to the future, you miss the present.

Find a young player who we can sign in our budget, wants to come play for us, and would immediately improve our first team. I'm curious as to who fits that criteria.
