This American talk

If he is better then Donovan he will IMMEDIATELY impact our first team. Challenge still stand on the above criterion.

So if you had a choice of Donovan + Dempsey for 17mil OR say 2 TOP young u21 players who would be integrated into the team which would you choose ?

As in potentially 2 old Americans or 2 potential rooneys?

It's a bit like having a poll which says

A -- Would you have Donovan and dempsey for 17mil
B -- Would you rather spend 17mil on a top european player (insert name)
C -- Would you rather spend 17mil on 2 or 3 well known and exciting prospects.

I think A would be the last choice.

This might be relevant if we had 17m to spend.

Challenge #2: Find a player who fits our wage structure, valuated around 17m and doesn't play for a Champions League (or Europa League) team, and would strengthen our first team, preferably in positions that everyone has been calling for improvement in.

So you obviously haven't been paying any attention.

THE MAJORITY OF EVERTONIANS wanted Donovan here full stop.

That's a fact.

Stop with the windups.

Thats like saying would Evertonians want a decent player = YES

OR would they prefer a younger player with vastly more potential for a lower price = YES

Which would it be.....i'd say the latter.....which is why its ridiculously obtuse to even begin to advocate either of these players.

Good question but they key word is "potential."

ManU paid 20M+ for the real Rooney.

Yeah, if I knew two prospects were going to turn into two Rooneys, I'd take option B. But since we don't, I'd prefer to have players that can contribute now.

Would depend on the player. You give me a phenomenal u21 keeper and a u21 CB, i'd say take players who improve us now.

If we are always planning for the future without taking our present into consideration, why would these "potential rooneys" want to stay around? He fukced off at age 18 for pastures greener.

But thats what they are valued at by their clubs. So the argument to sign one or BOTH of these players is a relevant one.

As for challenge 2 -- Moyes had already been heavily interested in cech, essien,m'bia, moutinho, hazard etc but for the prices quoted would have signed them....

...like Coleman...oh, wait.

Did any of them come here?

I'm struggling to see your point talking about the past. You seem to focus on the past and the future without even considering the present at all.

Why do they have to IMMEDIATELY improve the first team ?

Because Donovan does immediately improve the team.

Maybe folks have had it with younger players who take too long to improve the team and when they finally do develop, they are sold. Thus we never get the on-field benefit of having them.

With Donovan, we do.

Instead of negative repping me use your brain......

I clearly wrote BUT FOR THE PRICES QUOTED WOULD HAVE COME HERE.

Obviously those would be similar prices to those of Dempsey and Donovan.

Fits your criteria of potential and cheaper...... can't just blow it off because it doesn't support your point.

Hahaha clutching at straws....comparing me saying younger and cheaper than 17mil to a 60GBP signing.

Very clever.

For how long 2-3 seasons ?

Whats wrong with signing younger players....grooming them and integrating them -- then selling them and buying 2 more young players with the inflated fee we would receive...

then sell one or both of those 2 and sign 4 -- and the cycle starts again. It's the only way Everton Football Club makes money -- player trading.

Player trading shouldnt be signing 2 players who have 2-3 seasons left in them.
