I love Donovan for us but now?

I sure as heck don't want us paying 8M GBP for him. As I mentioned in the Donovan thread, 4-5M tops.

Were you recently turned down by a fit bird, Zat?

No, ive been on a nightmare for a week.....first stuck in floods in manila....then a few days in Kuala Lumpur (which i hate)....

Now back in manila and still wet.

Not in a pleasant situation.....might wait a few days and see if things brighten up....or order in some hookers.

Joao Silva, Magaye Guaye, Apostolos Vellios, Shkodran Mustafi, Anton Peterlin, Luke Garbutt, George Green.

7 players we have "bought" in the last 3 Years, all under or around the age of 20.

I guess this buying Youngsters and getting lucky thing isnt working out.

Alright that seems sound.

But back to the original issue, we don't have 17mil.

Also, as TX Bill pointed out, Donovan isn't being touted at 8mil. Just keep that in consideration.

When you bring in 3 or 4 youth like that, and one comes good, it makes up for em all. But if it comes down to just taking 1 of them, it becomes an even bigger risk. Is it worth our transfer kitty to risk "everything" on hoping one player with potential comes good or to have a player who is almost certain to work (donovan: saying he wouldnt work now after working so well the first two times would be a bit naive) and make a positive impact on the first team right now?

I am CERTAIN (see i even wrote in capitals for added effect) that no matter what Donovans transfer fee would be, his signing on+loyalty bonus and salary would be enormous compared to a younger player....also his media rights would stay with him i imagine.

I would guess that for Donovan we could get 2 young lads in who over the course of an initial contract would be of equal or cheaper value.

Its important to sign youngsters in groups of 2 then the risk is minimized.

I'd prefer if we were looking to sign people who were younger than Donovan/ Dempsey tbh. They're good players but the reality is we are a selling club, and we need players who we will be able to cash in on down the line. Early-mid 20s would be ideal, although obviously it's easier to type that on my keyboard than for the club to actually go out there and do it...

+ Wages / loyalty bonus + signing on fee + his image rights wouldnt be signed to us.....big money.

Hold on a minute

Gueye -- got playing time last season and we'd get back 1mil for him.
Vellios -- 250k and hes now worth a few mil
Garbutt -- By all accounts he will be a top player
Green -- Now youre taking the piss, he was 15 ffs !!

Silva -- failure
Peterlin -- was free i thought ?
Mustafi -- was very cheap and touted as a future top player....

Exactly this.....I just wish that instead of paying up to a mil for young lads and it being a case of roulette....

We spend the Rodwell money on a couple of decent young players for 6mil each.....thats the only way for a skint club to have success.

Green might have been 15, but if he makes it, he will cost us around 2m.

None of the players have made ANY impact, sure some of them look like decent players, but none of them will stop us having to sell Fellaini in 12months time.

He cost a fair bit of coin, even if it's four years before we'll see any pay off.

Not near as much as you might think and certainly well within our budget.

Plus, he'll contribute now instead of waiting for the next Rooney or Rodwell to come through the ranks and there is no guarantee that will happen.

Like I said, the manager will go with proven players, not youngsters.

Calm down lads. It's all going to hinge on what Moyes wants. Donovan will be a toffee and he is world class and will bring a different attitude and dimension to us and will not break the bank. Dempsey had his chance to impress Moyes four or five years ago but something about the Texan didn't click and it won't click for us for 9 million.

The only thing I agree with the range of Zatara comments was his view on Obumma. The sad fact he is probably a shoe in for the next four years. Senator Proxmire would have had a special Golden fleece award for him.

I met Donald Trump Jr and his brother Eric a few weeks ago....backing Mitt.....who seems liek a total clown to me.

You should have Trump himself as president....or Soros' son.

Anyway, Donovan isnt world class....he's rapid and ace but not world class...i worry that when his pace goes then what will we be left with?

Then Dempsey was passed over by moyes i think -- not sure why.....

If they were both FREE then good signings other than being saddled with their wages.....which will be large.
