Every day there's a shooting somewhere.
And it's hugely likely that it's in the US.
Every day there's a shooting somewhere.
The good guys with guns were, quite understandably, afraid that in the confusion they would be shot by police. Which is just one of the flaws in the whole ridiculous concept. In all of this I noticed that, yet again, the bad guy with a gun wasn't stopped by a good guy with a gun.
I don't think the USA will ever stop people from owning guns unfortunately. It's a culture over there, it's a bit of a vicious circle though because 99% of them will own a gun only for self defense, to prevent other with sinister intentions of using it against them. But, by owing a guy they could end up where it's used against them or, someone else in the family could get access to it.
I don't think they'll take lectures from us about the problems it brings when we have a knife crime problem. That's the counter-argument I hear quite a lot when having these debates.
Has anyone watched that guy Ben Sharipo's (Think thats how it's spelt) interview with Piers Morgan about the use of fire arms in America? Piers was absolutely destroyed.
It's a really crappy world we live in isn't it? Every day there's a shooting somewhere. I fear it's only going to get worse before it gets better. The truth is, if bad people want to hurt someone they'll find a way to do it, regardless of how many barriers we put out in front of them.

These are just the mass shootings (4 or more injured/killed by the bullets) and don't include those where less victims or accidents/suicides. The trend is unfortunately increasing despite overall crime rates/murder going down.
The good guy would have to have been remarkably prescient to have a sniper rifle locked, loaded, perched and trained on the 32nd floor of Mandelay Bay Hotel by pure blind luck on the day.
Simple economics really: supply and demand, end of"If they were illegal people would just get them anyway". Can America get rid of guns overnight? Of course not.
But it's much harder to obtain an illegal firearm in the UK than the US. Because the less guns to be produced for sale legally, the tougher it would be go to get hold of one otherwise. It's that simple.
I wasn't trying to put any blame on Trump and I believe everyone knows that this is terrorism by definition. However, there's a difference between calling something what it is and using the word. Politicians (especially Trump, as we've seen) avoid using these words at all costs if possible. I was just predicting that Trump will probably not call this working class old white man a terrorist. Only the scary dark people are terrorists in his eyes. It's not possible that we're being violent domestically. It's clearly terrorism. I'm not sure that's even the debate. Terrorism is a violent act aimed at causing terror by definition.
But the wider point is the disgusting culture of needing weapons in the US. And for once I don't even think you can blame Trump. No president, not even Obama did anything other than say a few words. Actions were what was needed. Surely enough is enough.

Yep.
Just like Heroin/Cocaine doesn't kill people, people do. Which are a banned and illegal substance, which you can't buy in a store. Strange how people still get a hold of it though.
Certain people on the right 'see the light' when it effects them, or someone they care about.
Wow Ryan really is a piece of work.
A) there is at this point no reports that the shooter suffered from a mental health issue so in his role of House leader he should quit the speculation until more info is known - I somewhat doubt he would have been so eager to leap to that conclusion if the shooter wasn't white.
B) Access to mental health treatment was one of the areas most impacted by the multiple Republican healthcare bills.
