I don't think the USA will ever stop people from owning guns unfortunately. It's a culture over there, it's a bit of a vicious circle though because 99% of them will own a gun only for self defense, to prevent other with sinister intentions of using it against them. But, by owing a guy they could end up where it's used against them or, someone else in the family could get access to it.

I don't think they'll take lectures from us about the problems it brings when we have a knife crime problem. That's the counter-argument I hear quite a lot when having these debates.

Has anyone watched that guy Ben Sharipo's (Think thats how it's spelt) interview with Piers Morgan about the use of fire arms in America? Piers was absolutely destroyed.

It's a really crappy world we live in isn't it? Every day there's a shooting somewhere. I fear it's only going to get worse before it gets better. The truth is, if bad people want to hurt someone they'll find a way to do it, regardless of how many barriers we put out in front of them.

The vegas shooting was the 273 mass shooting in 274 days how does that compare to our knife crime problem ? We had over 32,000 knife crime arrests last year but keep in mind that involves simple possession of a knife which clearly isn't an offence in the US . I'd say if anything the knife crime issue illustrates that something that isn't banned is easy to be used in the commission of crime whereas our gun crime rate is significantly lower .

I posted earlier look at how tackled its mass shooting problem , significantly and illustratively they've not had a mass shooting since the ban . Does that not indicate that the problem can be tackled ?

You say shootings happen everyday they do , according to UN figures (2012 last available figures) per 1 million people the homicide rate by firearm in the US is 29.7 whilst Canada is 5.1 and Australia 1.4. Unsurprisingly the country with the most guns , apparently half the worlds civilian owned firearms are believed to be in the US have the most shootings just as apparently the states with the most firearms have the most shootings . There does , to the casual observer, seem to be a pattern there .

The good guys with guns were, quite understandably, afraid that in the confusion they would be shot by police. Which is just one of the flaws in the whole ridiculous concept.

See after every tragedy this is the part that annoys me the most.

Its always the same rethoric and then back to normal....

The left simply call for more talks and possible action on dealing with gun crime.

Then the right and its supporters start the counterproductive stuff like

- We cannot talk about it its too soon
- Leave the politics out of it its a tragedy
- The guy was a nut and people kill people not guns etc...
- If only people carried guns they would have stopped them or in this case they didn't want to be shot or get arrested haha!!
- Blame the left or hate for the administration and find a way to pin it on democrats

Its ridiculous really and some of my friends are included in that who support the right. Their rational brain leaves their body and they become excuse machines.

The good guy would have to have been remarkably prescient to have a sniper rifle locked, loaded, perched and trained on the 32nd floor of Mandelay Bay Hotel by pure blind luck on the day.

These are just the mass shootings (4 or more injured/killed by the bullets) and don't include those where less victims or accidents/suicides. The trend is unfortunately increasing despite overall crime rates/murder going down.

It's crazy how many of them we really don't read about or see on the news. I bet most Americans only know about the real big ones like Vegas. Most probably don't realise or care to realise or are not exposed to just how many murders occur each day and out of them how many people die in one shooting etc..

What a mental diagram.

Thing i read a couple witness accounts of those in the crowd that were serving military and or cops and none of them could tell where the bullets were coming from initially not until many people were shot at.

I bet even then until those windows were smashed completely and from distance in panic it would have been hard to focus on just where without being hit yourself.

"If they were illegal people would just get them anyway". Can America get rid of guns overnight? Of course not.

But it's much harder to obtain an illegal firearm in the UK than the US. Because the less guns to be produced for sale legally, the tougher it would be go to get hold of one otherwise. It's that simple.
Simple economics really: supply and demand, end of

It's clearly terrorism. I'm not sure that's even the debate. Terrorism is a violent act aimed at causing terror by definition.

But the wider point is the disgusting culture of needing weapons in the US. And for once I don't even think you can blame Trump. No president, not even Obama did anything other than say a few words. Actions were what was needed. Surely enough is enough.
I wasn't trying to put any blame on Trump and I believe everyone knows that this is terrorism by definition. However, there's a difference between calling something what it is and using the word. Politicians (especially Trump, as we've seen) avoid using these words at all costs if possible. I was just predicting that Trump will probably not call this working class old white man a terrorist. Only the scary dark people are terrorists in his eyes. It's not possible that we're being violent domestically.

Good for him for seeing the light, but that mentality really boils my pish;

Certain people on the right 'see the light' when it effects them, or someone they care about. Same with the health care debate. "I was Against universal healthcare until I got cancer and now I support it". Brilliant. Nice one for that.

Selfish so and so's!

Yep.

Just like Heroin/Cocaine doesn't kill people, people do. Which are a banned and illegal substance, which you can't buy in a store. Strange how people still get a hold of it though.

Why not just make it legal then?

Increased availability will have zero impact on its consumption, might as well get some tax dollars.

Wow Ryan really is a piece of work.

A) there is at this point no reports that the shooter suffered from a mental health issue so in his role of House leader he should quit the speculation until more info is known - I somewhat doubt he would have been so eager to leap to that conclusion if the shooter wasn't white.

B) Access to mental health treatment was one of the areas most impacted by the multiple Republican healthcare bills.

C)

If its too soon for the left to talk about gun reform then its way to soon for this idiot or his colleagues to talk about the guys mental health. Like you said the cops haven't even determined a motive nor has anything pointed to his health.
