They just don't trust the government and think that, at any given time, they're one piece of legislation away from a full-on fascist state

They are not wrong in thinking that, Prev :(

And not just Americans governments.

Pretty much all governments are made up of control freaks whom would love nowt more than to get into power then enact legislation which abolished elections IMO.

Not something I believe, personally. I think a lot of Western governments are credited with more intelligence than they deserve, and changes happen despite the routine incompetence of bureaucratic machines. I acknowledge that some conspiracy theories may in fact be true, but this sort of response after every single notable public incident is getting tedious. Some people are more afraid of the possibility that their government is pulling the wool over their eyes as part of some huge, unlikely conspiracy than admit that, often, the simplest explanation is true.

BBC said the other night he was a keen gambler who liked Country music.

Ok. That's one account, I've seen many that contradict - tough to know what to believe still. But the fact he liked the same tunes doesn't actually mean that he wouldn't unleash murder upon fellow country music fans, does it?

Reading so much nonsense from the pro-gun enthusiasts on other forums and social media.

They seem to fall into 2 categories:

The "We need automatic weapons to protect ourselves from the government" nutjob catagory.
Protect from what? Them taking over the country?

And the utterly selfish bunch who's arguments boil down to "I want to play with my toys and you can't take them away from me"

It hasn't gone unnoticed that it seems most can't accept that banning firearms in the United States will never happen.

It also hasn't gone unnoticed that it seems most can't accept that you don't need automatic weapons to carry out mass shootings. If you do accept this last point, see my first paragraph.

Yee-haw.

A high percentage in the second group are ashamed to be in it so claim to be part of of the first group to somehow justify their gross habit.

Since when does the right to keep and bear arms mean guns? Guns of any sort? Isn't a thermo nuclear device an armament? Can I keep and bear one of those?

Regulation is not infringing on anyone's constitutional rights.
