So on my way home from work today I flipped over to a conservative talk radio station to hear the other side. Weird audio cult of personalities exist in this world.

I didn't catch the guy's name, but his argument was from Crazytown.

He compared prison to gun shows for a pro gun argument.

He said in prison, arms like knives and shivs (a knife made from a toothbrush or the like) killed and injured 1000's while guns didn't kill anyone.

He then said he couldn't recall anyone being injured or killed by arms of any sort at gun shows. 'Think about it' was his final summation.

Sadly people will lap that crap up.

Seems rather counter productive to ask people to think about that argument!

Bit of info on the bump stocks he used in the attack:

Bump-fire stocks, also called bump-stocks and slide-fire adapters, allow semi-automatic rifles to fire at a high rate, similar to a machine gun.

But the accessories can be obtained without the extensive background checks required of automatic weapons.

They typically cost less than $200 (£150) and allow nearly 100 high-velocity bullets to be fired in just seven seconds, according to one company advert.

One of the most popular manufacturers of bump-stocks, Slide Fire, said they had sold out "due to extreme high demands" since the Las Vegas shooting.

Unbelievable that this attack is like an advert to have something that turns your semi automatic into an automatic. Or they are trying to get them before they are banned. Stay classy Merica.

(Apologies to the upstanding, sensible and not morally bankrupt inhabitants...)

It's common knowledge here that gun sales and related sales always increase 1) after mass shootings and 2) when a democrat is in office. It's b/c everyone is so afraid "the liberals are going to take our guns away". The gun makers love mass shootings like this.

It's insanity

So nra happy to ban bump stocks, easy gimme from them and won't affect their profits, sneaks

Everyone has bought one in the past few days, so banning them would do flip all - as would "closing the gun show loophole", gun-locks and all the rest of the nonsense that barely qualifies as tinkering around the edges of this problem.

If the anti-gun crowd are serious, they should really start focusing on the "a well-regulated militia" part of the Second Amendment.

Listening to the US right wing TV and radio shows should be compulsory - you cannot possibly hope to understand them until you understand that they are a combination of absolutely mental and out to enrich themselves.

Nice way of appeasing isn't it? 'look at the way the NRA quickly acted and didn't even need telling by the government. They sure are a swell wholesome organisation that are only concerned with the welfare of the citizens of this great country.'

So bump stops will get banned and everyone will say they've done their bit, totally skipping over why anyone needs assault rifles, or to be able to buy a gun collection that a country like Luxembourg would be proud to call it's total arsenal.

The pro-gun lobby are right in one sense, in that the physical removal of guns in circulation, in itself, won't change much. To be effective, gun regulation needs to be a part of a general, long-term initiative to curb America's obsession with guns. Haven't a clue where to start with that, but this is a token face-saving gesture with little or no impact on the wider problem. I suppose you have to take what you can get over there, the NRA has a long and successful history of being able to remove the topic of guns from any national debate about guns.

a simple start would be having to pass a test to own a gun, like a driving license
