The 2 years since Martinez left.

I think Koeman's got away with murder, by and large.

Too many people bought into him as 'the answer/antidote' and were found out. I expect that might contribute to the fairly easy time he gets...that sense of embarrassment.

Imo he has damaged us for a decade. and stands hands down as the very worst appointment there's ever been. He's hollowed us out as club to make most observers question our identity, and he's wasted the type of precious cash we'll not see spent again in such volume probably ever.

I detest the man. Although I understand why the embarrassment of the majority who backed his appointment doesn't allow them to shuffle foward and feel the same way.
I’ll hold my hands up, I wanted Koeman at the club. I really thought he could do a job for us. When you consider every top player saints had was sold under his watch, IMO he did a great job to get them to two more than decent finishes in the league. Add in the fact, that he had beaten a lot of top teams in his tenure there I thought it was a shrewd appointment. Fast forward to him joining us, an excellent home record last season clouded the judgement of many (me included) that he was the man to take us forward. However the recruitment of last summer has put us back years in the terms of the financial cost and the abject failure of many of his and walsh’s purchases. His dour demeanour didn’t do him many favours, but was this due to English being his second language? I’m not so sure. What cannot be denied is the next appointment not only has to be the right one, he also needs to transform not only the playing staff but also the style of football being served up, which has divided the fanbase. This is a massive job to undertake, it will take a manager of some skill and standing to achieve this. In my mind there are only 2 candidates capable of fulfilling the role...Tuchel or Emery.

As a result of Koeman's time here we will not be getting a Tuchel or Emery.

I seriously doubt the cash will be there to attract such quality even if they were to agree to take up the challenge. We've seen the massive spending at Everton. IMO that was a once only shot and it was spectacularly wasted.

Silva and Howe will be on our short list.

It’s just so Everton that we’ve waited a lifetime to have some serious clout in the transfer market and it has been squandered by a manager who was frankly only here for a payday and a ‘stepping stone’ to the Barcelona job. Silva and Howe although decent managers who try to play football in the right manner are not of the calibre to take us to the next level in my eyes. Alternatively we could go for a higher risk appointment such as Nagelsmann from Hoffenheim to bridge the gap, either way it’s an appointment we must get right.

Me too. If only I'd known.

Who kept moyes on 4 years past his sell by date ? Kenwright & Co
Who appointed martinez ? Kenwright & co
Who sacked Martinez? Moshiri
Who appointed Koeman, sacked him and gave us BFS ? Moshiri

The real culprits hiding in plain sight ...and they are still here...FFS Silva or Howe? We are all feckin doomed lollollol

Lol the Martinez apologists, did well in the first season but created a mess at a Everton. Koeman was the real fraud tbf because I could see through Martinez before he even came here, Koeman genuinely deceived me, thought he’d do well. I’d rather Sam than the pair of them and idc

We are not appointing Howe ffs.

For all Moshiri's mistakes he's genuinely been ambitious with appointments bar Alladyce - koeman and Walsh both were highly rated lets not be hindsight nobs and act like "I TOLD YOU SO" we never expected such a poor summer window.

stop bed wetting we'll appoint Fonesca/Brands.

I don't care what anyone says, there were a lot of good things about the 3 years under Martinez. Of course it's all hypothetical now, and of course we're not going back to him, but there are definitely good things about his approach, style, confidence and positivity which we needed at the time. in summary, I think he had a thin and slightly ageing squad, and neither the players or fans are positive and optimistic enough to have patience with his approach. We are a sour bunch, who prefer gritty, hard tackling players and a passionate, aggressive team over a stylish one. We want both I think, actually, and Martinez would have been really good had he got rid of Greame whatshisname, Denis Lawrence, his entire coaching staff actually, and brought in some experts who were more suited to European football or 'higher class' operations and maybe some tough players who were assertive and positive on the pitch. The last season of sideways boring passing was horrible, but how often do we reach the SF of the cup?

Anyway, the point is, we need to settle on a 'type of manager' and style of play, Moyes to Martinez to Koeman to Allardyce is strong evidence for a lack of direction in the club. Just been reading about Wolves, and they seem to have a really smart plan, which is, of course, supported by billions of £ and Mino Raiola

Martinez didn’t pratice set pieces. We kept conscedjng from set pieces.
The football was booed for being boring and he finished the last two seasons in a worse position then we will this season. Players had downed tools for him.
I’m not sure what there is to discuss.
Nice guy though, but let’s not forget that we were getting worse the longer he was in charge

Don’t forget Roberto inherited a top squad, whereas Koeman was handed a disheveled, rag-tag bunch who had been mismanaged for years
Top squad.....

Never knew John Stones was an old player.

Martinez inherited a seasoned old guard who were still at the top of their game. The players Martinez left behind are largely woeful. There is more to management than just selecting a team and tactics. Training the players to make them better, lining up transfers etc is just as important
