The 2 years since Martinez left.

That was the way it went many times in home games when teams came to spoil. We played half our games away from home! Maybe you were the one watching another team if you missed the way we were able to break at pace and exploit space on countless occasions when allowed to?

I didn't miss anything. Nor did the vast majority of Everton supporters at the time. Everyone else is out of step except you...

I hate Martinez a lot more because he was given enough time (2 full seasons) to do the damage <2 bottom half finish, 29.33% winning rate in the last 2 seasons, worst ever home record in one season> while Moshiri fired Koeman 7 games into his second season so even with hindsight Martinez is the worst of the bunch for me (bfs, moonhead and the fraud). I think bfs will leave soon so like Koeman, he would not be given time to cause further damage.

Koeman created the worst Everton team I've ever seen in my life having spent £200m, there's so much more to it than him just "being sacked after 7 games of the season". And it was more than 7 games actually, we'd had about 5 Europa Leagus games where we couldn't string a pass together as well.

Of course he is held accountable for the mess but the pe teacher shares equal share of blame. I understand where you are coming from like all those trashing against the Sky teams but 2 crap full seasons were too much for me. It’s right up there like Walter Smith’s era ad HKmk3.

i love it - we are all actually arguing about which manager was less crap... it's like fighting over which bird is less ugly! they're both minging so lets just agree to move on and find a fit lass we can be proud of.

Can't disagree there. Koeman was a shambles this season, an actual disgrace the way he's taken us backwards with the finances available to him.

If those players were effective at the plan and we finished in the top 4- yeah why not? wouldn't be my cup of tea style wise but results win prizes.

Give Martinez 200m and he would have brought in 2 top balls CBs I would imagine, a top keeper and a playmaker.

Do you think that would have been worse than what was spent and on whom after he left?

But Cuco can't cross a ball and Bolasie has been rubbish his entire career.

I hate Martinez, but Martinez > Koeman with hindsight. That says everything about how bad Koeman is, because Martinez is a clueless chancer.

When we were first linked to koeman I kept referencing Valencia (would have relegated them if he wasn't sacked) who he did win a cup with (the players famously ignored his instructions) yet he was sacked a few days later.

The signings he made were suspicious...Klaassen for me was bizarre...Bolasie and Williams also...yet Gana/Keane/Pickford/Lookman made sense....as players. Yet there was no strategy.

I'm not comparing Pep and Martinez...yet the style of play requires a certain type of player. Martinez I believe would have signed players to fit his system...koeman had no system.

I think if we had kept Martinez and he had spent 150-200mil...or even 100mil+ then the majority of fans would have been excited for his 4th season knowing such an outlay had been made.

Martinez is clearly more attractive than Koeman...additionally, he'd compliment you all night long and is an incredible dancer...

Moyes was the only one who’s alright.

2 horrendous seasons under Martinez were not long enough for some people and they imagined if he was given £200m and the 4th season. This is unbelievable. Short memories.

I am not Big Sam advocate, but at clubs with similar size budgets (Bolton v Wigan) he performed better and he has never been relegated from the Premier League.

Thing about Wigan’s relegation is it came after several years of Roberto’s management, so it is not as if he walked into a bad team

Martinez got a lot right, he signed some quality players and going forward got some amazing results, beating the likes of Arsenal and beating Man utd , he changed the mentality of the players, we actually attacked against the top 6 sides and after Moyes, that was a welcome change. But he was poor when it came to defending and after a while the opposition managers started to work us out very easily and we got picked apart. At that point he needed a plan B and didn't have one at times we were terribly exposed. The 4-0 at Anfield and the 3-0 against Sunderland stand out as bad ones, but there were others as well, the team was spiraling downwards and it gets to a point where the club have to change the manager and thats what we did. It has not all been great from there, largely the players Martinez brought in, are gone. Hopefully we will get a new manager in the summer and start building towards something again

I agree with all of that.

Instead of a 'plan b' though I wonder what would have happened if he dropped 200mil on players to fit his system....will never know.

We do certainly need someone to come in and lavish us with a strategy asap.

Ah here we go with the "great away form" myth. In 14-15 with won an appallingly bad seven games at Goodison and even less with only five on the road. In 15-16 we won just six (SIX!) Home games (the last of which was under Rhino) and six on the road. These are a shockingly bad return no matter what spin you put on them.
Oh look....

....you appear to be wrong....AGAIN.

Martinez was generally poor in the transfer market, i’ll base my opinions on that rather than who you imagine he might sign.

We weren’t even in for Lukaku btw - he was offered to us on deadline day.

I'm still yet to read any confirmation that "we were offered Lukaku". How do you know it wasn't told to enquiring clubs earlier in the summer that Lukaku wasn't available hence going for Ba instead (as the story goes). Seems rubbish to me and no-one (to my knowledge) has substantiated the claims that we weren't interested in Lukaku at all.

Plus, wasn't it Lukaku signed for Martinez permanently after year 1. So it's a moot point whether we were after him on loan or not.

Finally Macca my friend, do you concede that if Martinez had £200m to spend as Koeman did, he would have bought different players to the ones he bought during his time at Everton, in the main?

I'd imagine he would still have gone and got McCarthy, Lukaku and Deulofeu. Any else you'd put your hat on?
