The 2 years since Martinez left.

Bolasie is a ok PL footballer, Niasse on the other hand played in some crap leagues not so long ago. However, I hope you are right so that Hull can pay the club a fee in the summer.

lol

You said I was championing Martina and Bolasie. Saying Cuco can cross a ball and saying Bolasie is ok a year ago, that is classed as ‘championing’ according to you. Zat you really are shameless.

You are championing Martinez you are just clueless and laughable. And playing all these kids will solve everything. Stop playing FM.

Never said that mate. Guff like that was just nonsese spin from the club and our fans who overrate any player who so much as completes a pass for us, it was nonsese at the time and remains so to this day.

Not saying you did. Just loads of people said it at the time, they said it when Koeman took over. Worryingly some people even still say it now!

Martinez made one of the best signings of the last 20+ years (credit to him for that), and wasted his value to the team for 2 seasons running.
He also signed McGeady, Niasse, Alcaraz and Kone. Lukaku wasn't some gem he uncovered, we took advantage of Chelsea, a club who don't trust young talented players enough to play them and even then if memory serves we weren't calling them to ask about Rom but about another player (i want to say Remy??). I liked Martinez, he was (and still is) charming bugger and his first season was great - made even better by the consistant tripe we've had to watch since but 2 seasons of that tripe were still under him and had he 200m to spend there is nothing to say he wouldn't have spend it on more crap like the Mcgeadys etc.

Niasse scores goals in the Premier League. A fair few of them as well for his game time.

Eventually people may cotton on that he isn't actually that bad.

Yes Niasse actually has gained us a few points earlier in the season but I just can’t see him having any long term future at this club.

It was all very well playing possession-based football in our own half up to the half-way line and just beyond, at a rather pedestrian speed. Top teams do that also. The problem with brown shoes was that we continued at that pedestrian pace into the final third, when speed was of the essence (top teams then move up through the gears rapidly). So teams set up to contain a slow moving Everton, and succeeded more often than not. Or were you watching something totally different??? Your idea of a possession-based game under brown shoes would have got us relegated...

This is a very good point. But Martinez himself spoke of the dire need to get someone through the door that could pick up the ball deeper and get us playing. Let's not forget, we were all crying for Pienaar to re-find his legs for month upon month because of our lack of craft.

We then spend a summer or more trying to bring in Yarmolenko because he's the best we can realistically bring in. And we were baulking reportedly at 25m.

He then has to go with Cleverley on a free (who we made 10m on btw).

Summer after Martinez is gone we use small change in Moshiri's back pocket to bring in Bolasie.

So ask yourself this question, if Martinez HAD the money Koeman and Allardyce have been afforded, would he have punted on the likes of

Alcaraz
McGeady
Eto'o
Niasse
Robles
Kone
Lennon
Leandro Rodriguez
Cleverley
Funes Mori

?

Some? perhaps.

All of them? Absolutely not.

The bolded bit is purely guesswork. Come on.

All managers sign duds. Even the best of them. Niasse is our second top scorer this season by the way (with a ridiculous goals per minutes ratio). Kone's leg fell off after a couple of games so I don't really think its fair to judge that one way or another. Alcaraz was a back up who he knew from his old job and yeah McGeady was awful. He had ability, he has just never been able to put it all together.

Barry was a good signing, Deulofeu could have been I suppose and I dont see anyone complaining about Holgate.

His transfers were pretty standard of any manager. Some good, some bad, some with potential.

Martinez didn't have 200mil++ worth of new players...he had only Lukaku in the same stratosphere of spending

With our current lot playing we wouldn't even get to the Europa lol

McGeady was as close to free as you can get...250k as they wanted shut of him and his contract was about to elapse.

I'm no fan of either...but id rather have McGeady and Alcaraz as squad players than Williams and Bolasie...

Wages and transfer fees could be used on better players.

This is gold. You prefer McGeady and Alcaraz.

Everton said it was undisclosed. BBC said it was undisclosed.

.
absolutely... they were standard so why is there this notion that had he the backing Koeman/Allardyce has had he would have done much bettter.

Because they were at least being signed with a plan in mind.
Under Koeman and Allardyce it's been "just sign as much quality as possible".
Look at poor old Cenk Tosun. A really capable, technical footballer who is being asked to just aimlessly leg it round the pitch as the ball does its best kite impression.
Walcott- how many times are we isolating the LB and allowing him to run at him with his pace? Hardly ever. So what was the point in buying him?

No mate. He just had three years with zero pressure from the top to build a side and he left us in a far worse state then he found us in when he joined the club.

He developed Stones and Lukaku to the tune of 125-150mil worth of transfer fees...

What cash did he have to build a team? Do you think Pep could have built a team with no money and that squad--he already said last week he needs money to build sides...

Unless i've misunderstood your point, you're arguing that the fee of a player is more important than their actual ability? So for example Klaassen at close to £25m means that he gives Allardyce a better chance of performing than say the £5-6m we paid Spurs for Pienaar that Martinez inherited? I use Pienaar as an example as he's a midfielder. Martinez inherited some of our best players in the last 15-20 years, and 4 years ago they were far superior to their levels now - Jagielka, Baines etc.

The £200m++ worth of new players can't be used as a stick to beat Allardyce with. He didn't sign those players other than Tosun and Walcott who have both been good signings and the fees were vastly overpriced due to an inflated transfer market.

Martinez made one of the best signings of the last 20+ years (credit to him for that), and wasted his value to the team for 2 seasons running.

No, what I'm saying is that if Martinez was handed 200mil+ to spend on the team he would have done a better job than Koeman. Cant really compare to Allardyce...

In Martinez' 3rd season Baines was poor...a lot of people agreed with Oviedo starting ahead of him and that's when Baines went crying to the media.
