Succession Planning - Managerial Wishlist

It's the difference between the two clubs. They have standards, we really don't.

And a manager who you clearly think will be their choice being left on the shelf by us when the possibility was there tells you why they are the only serious club on Merseyside.

That said, I think they're in chaos as they've left Alonso slip through their fingers. He'd be a better fit for them than Iraola. Mind you, I think they might go for Glasner yet. I reckon he would be ideal for them: demanding, successful, ambitious. All the things we're not.
I agree with a couple of your points fella. They haven’t messed about. Sacked him despite finishing 5th.

We have a small club mentality I’m afraid. We would rather hang on to the dinosaur, because he stabilised the club and got us a couple of top half finishes 15 years ago.

One rumour I heard in the last couple of weeks which suggests that the other lot had someone already lined up, was letting Chelsea have a free run at Xabi Alonso.
My other big fear if they don’t get Areola, is that they get Luis Enrique. Murphy was talking about that on Talkshite during the last week. I hope he’s wrong. 😧

I think they've panicked. I see no reason why they would have preferred Iraola to Alonso. I see little reason why he would have favoured Chelsea over them. I think they missed their own bus, here, even if they have shown they were not prepared to tolerate failure.

I suspect this appointment will fail.
I don't think they were enamored with Alonso after he turned them down a couple of years ago. Also they had reservations because Alonso wants more of a say in transfers and they'd prefer a coach who's more on board with their transfer process after the problems with Klopp towards the end of his time at Liverpool. To that extent Iraola fits them better than Alonso.

We hear a lot of "we couldn't get" so-and-so.

Yet, if these owners are as good as some have you believe, how come Moshiri - the incompetent old fool - could lure Ancelotti and these fellas can't get guys from Bournemouth or Crystal Palace?

Sorry, lads. It's vision, ambition, and money. If we can't lure a top manager, then, at best, we only have one of those three things - and are probably not too interested in even spending that. And that's all you need to know about our custodians.

Why is it always "next year"? Literally everything. "well glad we didn't get Europe, next year we can try for Europe". "Can't have the cups be a distraction, we need STABILITY so we can try for the cups next year". "Let's stick with someone we KNOW isn't the answer because NEXT YEAR".

It's absolutely pathetic.
Yup, been next year for about 15 years now.

I saw a post earlier saying it takes time to improve a clubs fortunes. I don't think it does. The right appointment and one or two smart signings can totally transform a club. Doing the same thing every year will never do it.

Screw it go and get Dick Schreuder in from NEC Nijmegen in, anything, just give us something a bit different to get us excited.

Can't see Chelsea giving Alonso much of a say on transfers...

The stench of Klopp still hangs large over the club.

No matter who takes the reins, they will always have to live up to Klopp.

I don't think all these arguments are at all aligned. It's entirely possible that better more attainable managers are available next season. If we sack Moyes now and Glasner tells us to jog on (because why wouldn't he, he's leaving a better squad that's in the Europa league) then what? The 2 ideal candidates are off the market and you're gambling on your 3rd/4th/5th choice manager with a squad that everyone on here readily accepts is the pits

Because you don't sack a manager unless you have your replacement ready? Didn't think that was a big leap.
