I wish him well personally, I hope him and his family enjoy good health and happiness.

But I hope his footballing career is an absolute unmitigated disaster from now on. Because he doesn't play for us any more, he plays for our direct competitors.

Flipping shame we've sold him as I thought he'd go straight to the top. Not a lot of chance of that happening at Citeh with their record of buying youngsters. Maybe we can buy him back cheap in a couple of years.

Someone who can defend.

Gary Cahill.

WHAT?

Indeed. Gary Cahill. But then, like many old Evertonians, perhaps the players I'd choose are a little too 'agricultural' for the younger generation who prefer a more 'open', five-a-side style game to the old eleven-a-side togger.

Apparently, being able to dribble the ball out from the back takes precedent over aerial ability, positional awareness, marshalling a defence and going to ground when the need arises. Not forgetting, of course, knowing when to launch the ball into row zed in the interests of the team rather than showing off just to put yourself in the shop window; oh, that's right, that villain of the peace Martinez made them do that, so I'll let 'them' off.

Perhaps I'm just a little too long in the tooth to follow the modern game of soccer.

the bitter side of everton fandom really depresses me. haven't read the thread for that reason. sorry to the fans that are so insecure about the club's future that they can't let a player go without grand narratives of betrayal playing in their head.

sure this guy is a incredibly lucky millionaire, but he's also 22, trying to do right by himself and his family and friends all the while being hounded by morons fed stories from the papers. his treatment by the fans was pretty sad, and it's no wonder to me that he wanted out. most of the fans wanted out from martinez so I don't know why so many crap on a young man who could've had his reputation ruined with a particularly terrible year under a manager so many of us hold to be completely inept defensively. he was a professional about it and did his best by my reckoning even while he made the mistakes that a young, talented and confident footballer will make.

wish him the best.

it's not about being insecure, its more the opposite
we're everton ffs, any player who dosent get that can get in the bin

I can't say I ever warmed to him. Found his defensive calamities far outweighed his occasional 'rolls royce' runs out of defence.

I guess I'm a traditionalist when it comes to defending. I will feel much happier without him in the team.

As with all departing players, I now hate him and hope he fails miserably.

Was not here long enough to justify any lasting feelings on my part.

He is gone and completely out of my consciousness, save for making contributions to a discussion such as this.

I never felt confident he would be here long-term as soon as he emerged, and felt his mind was elsewhere for much of last season.

He was and is no more - unlike ex-players like Cahill, Landon, Duncan, and many more who I will consider part of the Everton family forevermore.

That's it.

I hope he enjoys a career his talent deserves! With reagdrs hating him? No, not me, he wasn't brought up through the ranks, so i feel no sense of betrayal. It was a fine piece of business lads, think of it like that and all the anger should dissipate :)
