Rooney (18 months left on a contract)

If we are in the champions league or closer to it under Roberto when his contract expires and he turns down the chance to return and takes the cash elsewhere he doesn't get to come and stand in the gwladys street once he retires proclaiming he's an evertonian. We'd all play for free, if we had the money he had you wouldn't need asking twice to play for Roberto's everton would you

If he came back early enough, ie right side of 30 then I'd be sound about it but respect that for many others they don't want him back. Can see him getting sold in the summer to someone who'll pay a lot more fee and salary that we would so it probably won't happen.

Call me naive but i really could see him letting this contract run down and joining us at the end when he's 29. I'm not saying it'll definitely happen, but i checked on Oddschecker a while back and put a £10 down on us being his next club as the highest odds was 25/1 at the time which seemed far too high. Oddly enough only 2 bookmakers offered odds and the other was 4/1 which seemed far closer to what i expected

It all boils down to if he wants to come back in his peak, or if he wants to come back in the latter days of his career.

As has been proven elsewhere, there's no magical age where you're past it. It all depends on the player. I read somewhere recently that if Distin had been playing like this 10 years, or so, ago, he'd have been a regular fixture in the French National side.

So, if he came back, the key would be how. Would it be as someone who is well past it but can eek out an extra bob based on sentimentality, or someone who genuinely wants to finish on a high with us. Remember, the PL is arguably the very best league in the world, so playing for any club in this comp requires a certain skill level. We're not talking about Del Piero tearing up the A-league at 76 here!

I'd prefer Rooney to sign for Chelsea to be fair, gives us more chance of signing Lukaku.

Younger and hungrier than Waz but if we can't have Rom I'd deffo take him back.

This. I've often said that Rooney is Pete Rose. They're the same guy. Rose went back, so will Rooney.

He'll come back. Don't ask me how I know, but I say he'll come back.

Life is filled with possibilities. Among these, is success. It could even happen at Goodison.

If a player makes millions and millions by the time he's 30, should he think "I've made a lot of money now, I'll go and help a division 2 team get promoted"

It's not about money. Yes, they are paid a lot of money but they aren't doing it for money. When you're a footballer you want to be at the highest level and winning trophies year after year, playing with the best players in the world. Money doesn't come into it in my opinion.

Shouldn't do but all to often these days it does. Players who look for a big payday / 4 or 5 yr. deal at 27 / 28 fair enough. But at 30??? who knows what false expectations they might have or had planted in their little minds by agents etc. Depends how much common sense you credit to people in general, footballers as a group and Rooney in particular. I want it to happen and I think it has more chance now than under OFM,TGT...a savvy marketing presentation to once a blue always a blue Rooney, find a sponsor to come on board and not only will it pay for it's self, it will make money....Make it so Rubbertoe.

There's many reasons why he would want to come back and many reasons why he wouldn't. Utd really won't have a choice if Rooney decides he wants to come back to us only. They won't be able to stick a massive fee on him as he can run his contract down, would they want to keep hold of him on the bench at 200k a week? I doubt it...

Player power these days, All depends what Rooney wants. I'm sure he'd love his kid seeing him playing for Everton, I'm sure he'd love to go out on good terms with evertonians...one thing for sure once he ritires he won't be watching football at old Trafford! And he's seriously gota consider his next move. Would he want to very possibly close the door on Everton by signing a new deal or going somewhere else for 4/5 yrs? He'd be what 32/33....

Don't know if it could happen or not tbh. He would be making massive sacrifice financially to come in the next 18 months. Likewise we'd be making huge sacrifice taking him at 33. Who should make the sacrifice? Football gods will decide I suppose.
