We must be reaching some sort of apex, I mean 300k a week really is absurd

Don't think so, I saw an article that premier league players are looking to get in line with American sports stars, so we could be looking at £25m + in a couple of years

Isn't that a totally different set-up though; like the entire structure of payments and how/what they are allowed to pay??

Football is getting a tough pill to swallow now with the wages, if it goes like that I think i'll almost be done with it

FIFA needs to get involved with this. Some form of Salary Cap is needed lest the whole competition implode upon itself.

I think in many of these figures, they take into account sponsorships, ast hey must declare them to the clubs in America. Or so I believe.

In the way that he'll be giving up the opportunity to possibly win something and become a legend at the club he loves just to get some extra un-needed cash.

Oh please, it's easier to argue the deal is too good to turn down. I had thought that he might have wanted to come back, but to say he shouldn't sign the new deal because of 'un-needed cash' just doesn't make sense and goes against human nature.
I'll be amazed if he doesn't sign up for another 5 years ASAP.

Interesting points made regarding Rooney.

I was discussing this new contract offer he has recieved in regards to whether he would turn it down and return to Everton, desiring to win something with the club he supposedly loves, versus a truck load of cash on top of the incomprehenseable amount he has already 'earned'.

Some say he couldn't refuse 300k and accept, say, 100k at Everton. This has some merit but how much does a man need?

I would sooner pose the question -- if someone offered to pay off your mortgage, or give you £500 tax free extra a month. Could you support Liverpool and turn your back on Everton for good? I realise this is just a throw away scenario but it does have merit in regards to heart ruling the head.

Pro rata that extra cash would mean alot more to the average working family than the bloated wages of a footballer.

No guarantee that we would even want him though. As daft as that may sound he would obviously arrive with the billing of the main man, perhaps overshadowing the excellent progress of Barkley and underminding the togetherness of a tight knit squad.

Its horrible when you really put it into perspective, The average man or woman earns around 15-20k a year in the uk.

It would take 15-20 years of work to match one week of Rooneys new contract.

Disgraceful
