Rooney (18 months left on a contract)

I may be a little over concerned, something is niggling me about Everton taking a chance on signing new/returning players who have had a busy world cup. A lot of world Cup/European Championship players have terrible seasons immediately after these events. Rooney could easily have a poor season next season, so could some others. Its one reason why I would not be too disappointed if Baines went to United, as long as the fee was right. He would very likely not be at his best after the World Cup. Xavier was terrible when he came back from the Euros, and just look at Heitinger.
Jagielka, Oviedo, Howard, and the Belgian boys will all be running their arses of in Brazil, and this could effect us next season. Other clubs as well, of course.

The same will apply to other teams as well

I've always maintained he would attempt to play for Everton again - but that's not now. When that time comes, when he's well past his best, I hope as a Club we're in a position to laugh him off.

Yeah - if he's gonna come back at all then at least he should have some ability left.

If he's coming back 30+, then forget it.

Really don't understand this point of view.

Wayne Rooney aged 31 would still have more ability with a football than most players currently in our squad.

It's the principle for me. If he came back before he was 30 he would have turned down many big clubs to come back to us and we could enjoy a top class player in his prime. If he came back after that it'd be because the big boys no longer wanted him, which would be insulting to us considering he's supposed to be an Everton fan.

To be honest mate i'm not that arsed, if he were to come back aged 31 for two years and be a good addition to the side then great.

Principles won't get you trophies.

Neither will has-beens. He isn't going to sign a contract for 2-3 years wherever he goes next he'll be signed up until he's 33+.

Drogba won Chelsea the Champions League aged 33.

Not sure where this perception comes from that Rooney will automatically be not very good once he gets into his thirties. He's currently in the best shape of his life. Players should be played based on merit, it's why Distin still gets games for us aged 35.

The difference is they signed him when he was in his prime. Would they have signed him at 33 when the richer clubs were finished with him?

I'n not messing when i say his best football was when he was at Everton, and just before he done his metatarsal in the Euro's. The whole country new we had no chance of winning after that. He soon got all that raw talent of ripping past defenders one after the other and that arrogance that our new manager loves to talk about. He definetaly has other things he never had which can only come with experience like heading, but if you asked me which Rooney you would rather have in the team the answer would be the younger version all the time. Besides hopefully under Robby who's knows if he would be good enough in 2 years. Give this fella the backing with a decent amount of cash and. (Well lets hope)
