Personally I've had serious doubt about Bob since the shambles that was last season. I know we all felt the brave new world in his first season but looking back its not like we were ever the Leicester of that year were we? And of course it could be argued that ultimately we let a champions league place seemingly slip through our fingers.

Some can argue that a club with our relative lack of investment has no right to expect CL football or that Martinez delivered out highest ever premier league tally etc etc etc and of course there's something in all that.

However, there's a fairly lengthy list of 'smaller' clubs without our history or fanbase that have picked up silverwear since 1995. Including the previously mentioned Leicester (twice) Blackburn, Boro, Birmingham, Swansea, Portsmouth and of course Wigan. You could of course smartly point out that a few of those clubs have since drifted into oblivion. True, but is it really beyond the ability of this squad and our much feted manager to deliver a pot while keeping us in the top flight? To me, if EFC has any ambition any more Martinez should stand or fall on silverwear this season. He won't of course, but in any case - what the funk do I know..

Best ever PL points total, Everton playing the type of football only played by an Everton team since the great 1969/70 and 80s teams, a team in transition from old over the hill players to younger players who are the best of their generation.

Who believes he's perfect? I'm responding to the posts that have us managed by an imbecile, after the 3-3 'defeat' against Bournemouth.

A mirror needs to be held up to them to show how ridiculous they are. In any case, we wont be bothered by them again for a while if we can get through to the SFs tonight. The cave will be full again. Thank God.

It's a fact. There are people who've grown up watching Everton who think the muck served up by Moyes constitutes the brand of football we should aspire to. That was evident last winter.

Martinez is dragging them kicking and screaming back to the club's traditions as a football playing outfit. I dont know how best to describe that process other than to call it an education.

look at it this way then, there are in those 27 goals, No, count them, none, euro goals not to count and your point is??

Of those 27 nearly half were scored in the last 3 games Vs the bottom 3 teams...flattering to deceive.

The current squad properly guided and led are better than this.

But those 27 goals also represent the third highest goals scored in the league, only beaten by Man City 30 and Leicester 29.

The other teams have played against poor teams as well, in fact we haven't even played Newcastle who conceeded 5 against Man City and are in the bottom 3.

Fair enough criticise our defense, although even then there are eight teams with a worse record, but find this "goals don't really matter" vibe a bit bizarre. Goals always matter, regardless of who you score against, as it shows you have the firepower to win games.

Martinez has been here under three years and you bring up us not winning anything since 95

Moyes had over 10 years and won zip, he also had very good sides in that time

Well lets look a little closer

Just under half of those goals have been scored in the last 3 games Vs the bottom 3 Clubs, with the added advantage(?) of 2 home games

14 games in we have;
F27 A19 for 21 Pts

last 3 games
F13 A5 for 7Pts

So in the previous 11 games we scored F14 A14...for 14Pts

Or you might say, if it didn't undermine your agenda, that the team are picking up momentum now after a steady beginning.

You might also note that Gerald and Rom have, struck up quite an understanding and that in each of the last four, unbeaten games Del has hit Rom with an exquisite pass which the big man converted.

That kind of synchronicity takes a while to gel but when it does there is often a sudden improvement in results.

Now, I am going to be pedantic here and point out those figures you post are wrong.

The previous three games we have scored 8 and conceeded 4 for 5 points.......which by extension makes your fugures for the first eleven games wrong as well.

Previous four games it is 14 scored 6 conceeded for 8 points.

Hammers came in between Sunlun and Villa.....

It is two points per game in the last four and that is a team building momentum in any man's language.

It's true though. It's been a club too long associated with direct route one football. Martinez opposes that with every fibre. As I said, I dont know the alternative and appropriate phrase that fits the bill concerning the experience some of our number are going through regarding the way we now set up to play: 'a football education' is probably as accurate as I can come up with.

I love how beating Sunderland and Villa by big scores is somehow scoffed at my posters on here as "its bottom sides, its easy, we should be battering these clubs anyway" when it's exactly these games we have failed in on so many occasions its untrue, time after time we draw or lose against supposedly lesser sides and the fume was through the roof, we then go and smash two of those sides and its meh, its only Villa

Even the comeback against a pullis WBA side at 2-0 down with a makeshift back four was met with negative comments

You sound like a lunatic, and you are one if you think Everton are now the purist's choice because they're nailing teams on the counter.

The difference between this season and last is Deulofeu providing an option to go direct, and that's where the goals are coming from. It's much more aesthetically pleasing than going through Fellaini, but don't try and make out as though we're seeing total football here.
