Roberto Martinez discussion

You sound like a lunatic, and you are one if you think Everton are now the purist's choice because they're nailing teams on the counter.

The difference between this season and last is Deulofeu providing an option to go direct, and that's where the goals are coming from. It's much more aesthetically pleasing than going through Fellaini, but don't try and make out as though we're seeing total football here.
Yeah, it's just Deulofeu. Barkley hasn't improved, and neither has there been the flowering of a potent partnership between Kone and Lukaku. And Barry and McCarthy are performing just as they were last season; and we haven't strengthened at all in terms of central defensive options and seen the emergence of Galloway as a first team regular.

Just re-signing Deulofeu has done the trick. Defo.

It amazes me that you denigrate the style and potency of your own team. While Spurs have stunk the place out until recently with a load of tosh passed off as 'pressing football' they're feted as a 'purist' football team, while our team has been consistently producing the best attacking football in the league this season. I make no excuses for stating that, and you shouldn't either.

Who believes he's perfect? I'm responding to the posts that have us managed by an imbecile, after the 3-3 'defeat' against Bournemouth.

A mirror needs to be held up to them to show how ridiculous they are. In any case, we wont be bothered by them again for a while if we can get through to the SFs tonight. The cave will be full again. Thank God.

Oh I see, lets hope so

I do love your un-movable support of his, at the same time as setting him no targets.

'IF' FFS where is your confidence in the greatest manager of our premier league era. Why do you never set him any targets?

I know why. Of course.

Don't want to risk looking stupid, just like when you the board wouldn't back him to the tune of +£15m this summer and you hoped they wouldn't as it wouldn't fit your pre-set agenda.

It really must be easy bobbing from thread to thread criticising people who have hope and expectation for our club whilst having none yourself, just as long as Martinez is in charge.

2nd half on Saturday was just like watching Barcelona, each pass measured and meant. A purpose about everything we did, their was no need to sub any player as we had total control of the game, we were dictating play.

LOL

Lol so anyone who disagrees that we are now Martinez FC must think he's an imbecile and lives in a cave.
uneffingbelievable.
not to worry though, its all good.
Apparently.

It is all good we got a record points haul 18 months ago followed by our worst position for close to 10 years. A drop of 6 positions yet when Moyes does that at UTD, well it should have been impossible, according to this Kid.

This is what I can't abide, the complete polarisation of styles by the Davekians. Moyes was an ancient dinosaur, Martinez is reeducating the league's best on how to play passing football. Neither is true.

Martinez has played a different style in each season. First it was a possession based one with a slow build up and wide playmakers like Osman and Pienaar playing in overlapping full backs. Second season was just a complete cock up with no discernible style whatsoever. This season we are playing on the counter far more which is getting the best out of Del and Lukaku but has the downside of giving good teams the ball.

We're midtable for the number of passes per game, we're midtable in terms of possession percentage per game, we've got a better than average scoring record but a worse than average defence. This all results in us just being midtable. If what Moyes served up was dross then Martinez is simply serving up a different flavour. No part of this is total possession based football.

Most of this stuff is largely subjective anyhow. Martinezs time will be measured in league placings, European qualification, and trophies. Views on the quality of the football will not matter. He's served up some of the best and some of the worst stuff I've ever seen from Everton. Funnily enough so did Moyes. For every goal v Larissa there was midfield a of Neville and Rodwell, for every 3-0 v Arsenal under Martinez there have been lineups with 1 attacking player in the correct position. Both have served up total rubbish and total football at times. Neither could do either consistently which is why neither have been fired and also why as of yet we've not achieved anything of note that is tangible and not posters opinions on age of the team, excitement of football, and hope for the future.

It's easy repelling 'arguments' from you, that's for sure. You've been in your cave all season until the 3-3 'defeat' against Bournemouth.

No one takes criticism seriously from someone who quite obviously disliked Martinez since before he even joined us. There's no credibility in what you post.

Im taking notes of all your conversations @davek ready to resume our debates. Suprisingly though its in preperation to eat humble pie, i think if we get through tonight then we have a decent chance of Silverware ! Of course i still think he has alot of learning to do does Bobby.

Why do you dislike Everton so much? Why would you want to run Everton down like that?

I respect you're not one of the Martinez haters. Glad to discuss matters with you.

Well is it not plausible that the reason I didn't think he was up to the job is now being proven with his masterful 17 wins in the last 52 PL games

Yet again no targets.

I'm not sure what type of job you have, but I doubt you are never set targets, just like all of us, why is Martinez exempt? is is simply because you're the polar opposite to me and you were desperate to have hime here and are now set on him being the right man without a second thought of where the club is going?

Martinez with allways be the right man with you as lonag as you set him not targets as he simply can't fail.

Davek knows that all managers deserve time just like Roberto got in his second season. Apart from Moyes of course. He deserved less than a season at Sociedad.

I am one of the more vocal 'i think he can improve' contributors, i only popped back in here because i forgot to ask were do you think martinez should be finishing ? We always debated the 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 formations, should he play more 'moyes football' or more risky etc, but we used to say moyes should be aiming for top 4 but more likely 5th. Martinez however is building solid foundations with more excitement than the previous regime, therefore should martinez be aiming top 4 or less ? I think what is forgotten is that moyes did inherit a underachieving/ageing squad too.

Not running Everton down, the players aren't fit enough which would explain why the looked so 'leggy' post 60 minutes on satuday despite having the previous week free, and the wrong in game selections were chosen with regard subs, A blind man could see that Kone needed a break, thats not even me calling him either, he was fine in the first half, but under the cosh on Sautrday the most important thing (Everton) needed some pressure taking off us, but he didn't and the rest is history.
