Roberto Martinez discussion

Take Deulofeu out and they go back to huffing and puffing thirty yards from the opposition goal. No one else in the side is looking to play passes like the one which led to Lukaku's goal against Bournemouth, or the defence-splitter that put him through against Sunderland.

He's the difference, and Martinez deserves credit for the faith he's shown in him.

What's wrong with that?
But we scored three past both S'ton and Chelsea with Deulofeu playing a grand total of 1 minute over the two games.

Much as I love him, seems a bit extreme to put all the difference on just Gerard.

I've nailed my colours to the mast on this already: a top 7 finish/60+ point league performance, and a good run in one of the cups constitutes targets well and truly met in a season where the restructuring of the squad is taking place in a major way.

Honestly you've just spelt out the majority of Moyes' middle to latter years at the club in one statement. So your target for Martinez is basically to be as good as Moyes this season after his cock up last year?

I've stated targets on here all season long...oh, that's right I forgot...you wouldn't have read anyone's 'target's' because you only post on here when Everton lose or get a 3-3 defeat. Thankfully not often then.
That's simply not true so now you are here proving yourself to be a liar. I was here last weekend when we battered Villa, I don't suppose you'll check up as it won't fit your pre set agenda of Martinez first Everton second and expectations are irrelevant

If Lukaku and others dont move into space, Deulofeu cant find him...that has a lot to do with Kone's movement alleviating Lukaku. Ditto concerning Barkley's link up play with Kone/Lukaku.

See how it's all integrated and not down to just one player?

Yes, 'the rest is history'. Oh the terrible legacy of the 3-3 away defeat.

Lol.

It beggars belief that with an hour and a half to go before the biggest game of our season so far, there are boys on here more interested in running down our manager than savouring the moment and hoping we extend our recent good form to six unbeaten games.

I bet dollars to donuts some of these guys will post later on, if we win, that reaching the League Cup semi final is "papering over the cracks" :whip:

Ian what are your expectations of Everton just out of curiosity?

I'm just hoping if we go a goal or two ahead, our possession football will help us close it out.I bit like we should have done on Saturday.

'F Lukaku'

WOW

I know you are very Pro Martinez but to disregard Lukaku as well as the club and fans is truly incredible.

No, my targets for Moyes NEVER included a good cup run, because he was a coward and a dullard in cups and never had the boldness or audacity to come up with big wins in them. I expect better from Martinez.

7th place on 60 points: I'm setting that as an acceptable minimum, not a maximum.

And we won some games without him last season as well. I'm not saying the rest of the players are garbage, but they were crying out for someone like him to give the front line a direct threat. We saw the same thing to a lesser extent when Lennon came in last season.

Very few teams are so good that you can take the best player out and it won't make a difference. It isn't a slight against Martinez.
