Realistic position in the League

unrealistic to finish top 3 or so given the size of our squad but we have to dream if we want to achieve

from yesterday, and considering we didn't even see naismith or marillas, our best11+3 should be able to give anyone in the league a game. i'm sure there will be some injuries, and theres no way we can play 38 games at that level without a few sprains, but we'll have to see.

realistically though, i do not think 4th is out of the picture. what we have right now is quite possibly the best Everton team i've ever seen

Not getting ahead ourselves. I think we MUST get into Europe no matter what. Either through the league position, or through a cup win.

Think a lot depends on how we react when teams park the bus for 90 mins.
We are able to turn the big boys over because they come at us and leave space for us to counter and play in.
Hopefully with the couple of new forward thinking players and the options felli affords us we will be able to bulge the net more often,in which case we can challenge for 4th-5th place otherwise 7th-9th

I said before the United match if we won I'd expect us to finish 4th, not actually expecting us to win. But I'll stick by that. 7th would be average, anything below that, disappointing, 5th or 6th, good. City and United will finish above us. Chelsea should finish above us. Arsenal probably will. Spurs are easily catchable and I think we're better than Newcastle and I think Liverpool suffer from poor management.

A trophy should be the priority this season I think though.

On paper, and on the basis of strongest XI only, we are - in my opinion - no worse than the likes of Spurs and Arsenal, and miles better than Newcastle and Liverpool.

Then it comes to squad depth, and unfortunately we're behind all four of those teams imo. Jelevic gets injured we have no proven natural striker to come in. Baines gets injured we have to put Distin left back.

For me, it comes down to how many more (good) players Moyes can bring in before the end of the window. Mirallas was a good start, and I am hoping for two more, even if one is on loan. I'd like to see a good striker come in, and then a back-up left back, possibly a youngster who is prepared to wait for his chance, possibly be sent out on loan with us having the opportunity to call him back if Baines gets crocked.

If that happened, I'd say fourth would be realistic, but if we cannot add at least two more then we need to keep our fingers crossed for no massive injury jinx during the season.

We won't have injuries. We already sold Rodwell

To be honest mate people are getting so, so carried away.

It's okay us to take it to them. beating United but there are more Stokes and Readings we'll have to face. Teams that won't take the game to us, but expect
That's a totally different challenge and traditionally where we've been sh*t in the past few years. Villa will be interesting as we're leaps and bounds ahead of them all of a sudden, despite them being close rivals for years. That said we've got our usual Villa hoodoo to contend with and we're playing away. It's got 1-1 all over it.
I think thats where players like pienaar, naismith, osman and jelavic will be more effective. They didnt influence the game as much as Felli, Gibson, Neville, Jagielka and Distin. I like the balance we have in the team, there are options in style of play.

I think we have the best defence in the PL so should not leak many goals, and if we can get a couple more transfers in then you never know. One thing we have to remember is all the big teams have to play each other and teams like newcastle, spurs, etc have it in them to tutn over anyone on their day, so maybe getting in the top four won't require as many points as usual. It is going to be an interesting and exciting season, and a lot closer at the top!!
