Realistic position in the League

We are better than Newcastle, Spurs and Liverpool.....we are. Plus, Arsenal face a season of uncertainty and look really average (particularly in defence). You have to have some ambitiion and be aiming for top 4. If, as a fan, you cant entertain the idea, then that rubs off. You would not see Newcastle or Spurs playing with the same determination and class we showed last night, there was something about that performance last night which sets us apart from those teams. We've just gotta have the belief, keep Goodison rockin' and stay positive. Providing we dont get any major injuries and if we ensure that we turn up against those easier teams, I dont see why we cant make a big improvement over our 7th place finish last season. I definitly think we can finish 4th or 5th.

I would like to revise my statement of "3rd"

Realistically the higest possible finish I believe this team COULD achieve is 1st. The Villa game will tell us as much about how this season is going to go as the United one has. Away trip to a team we should beat.... let's see what happens.

Its not unrealistic to think we can finish 4th. If we strengthen with 1 or 2 more players and stay injury free then why not? Man City, Man Utd and Chelsea will finish top 3 but after that anyone can grab 4th. Arsenal and Spurs are much weaker than they were last season and I believe there is nothing to choose between us, Liverpool and Newcastle. So whoever wants it the most and gets a bit of luck with injuries can get it. I actually think Spurs will finish as low as 8th. They have a rubbish manager and their defence is pretty poor as well.

I can see the squad getting a europa league spot, maybe higher if they keep playing at the level we saw last night. What will kill us the most down the season is "playing down" to lesser squads. If we can get the easy points, odds are we'll finish pretty high in the table since we always seem to give a good match to the bigger squads.

Europe is the goal, same as it was before yesterday's game. Teams like Arsenal and ManU are fairly leaky at the moment, perhaps there's a possibility of top 4.

If we play like that every week, keep all our players injury free, suffer no suspensions, suffer no loss of form from any player, stay lucky for every game and have no dodgy ref decisions, we will utterly piss the League with 38 Wins.

But all of those things will happen at some point.

I think around 5th if we are VERY lucky with the things above, 6th or 7th if not.

If we get VERY lucky, we could get 4th.

Given the fact we still have a stout defence, our attacking options have improved by light years over this time last year -- and we still finished seventh after another horrendous start -- and have added quality to the squad, as thin as it still might be, I have to believe sixth is the bare minimum. But, as has been said before, it really comes down to how we do against the QPRs, Wigans and West Hams of the world. We **** away enough points against the likes of those last season.
