Qualifying for the Europa or Conference league: is it worth it?

Should we be concerned with qualifying for the lesser European competitions this season?

"Is it worth it"...

Haven't won a pot since 1995. Palace 1 win from 3 trophies in a year and qualifying for the europa in which relegation threatened Nottingham Forest just got to a Semi.

Whats the backup option? Accept mediocrity and just never win a trophy again?

CL gone, I want conference over Europa. Its winnable, ypu can rest players.

Theres three generations of evertonian who havent seen us win a trophy, theres two which havent seen us reach a final. Why would it ever not be "worth" it?

I have a feeling that with the English teams being so dominant in the conference league something is going to change regarding the premier League teams participating in it.

So we don't have a lot of time to qualify and to try to win a trophy so let's try now. See you guys somewhere in the south of Kazakhstan in the autumn

It’s a definite yes overall but it’s definitely not all upside, particularly the way the SCR rules limit you.

We probably have more wiggle room to spend this summer if we don’t qualify, plus we don’t need to enlarge the squad and spread the money further.

But that doesn’t really compensate for the huge boost of getting to watch us play in Europe and the realistic shot at winning the thing.

Conference league would be more enjoyable for the fans on the away trips. Remember the dead rubber match in Cyprus nine years ago wouldn't have thought we'd be waiting this long or more to be back in.

I don't know the specifics but when you're in UEFA competitions the financial restrictions for improving the squad are tighter than if you don't qualify? Our squad depth would need a fair bit of work. Ideally wouldn't want to play any of your key players in there until the knockout phase. Prize money isn't great but if you do go and win it then the natural step of qualifying for the next competition up would be significant progress and a good stepping stone onto improvement. Even if the conference league isn't considered to be a major competition just being back in europe would at least help us on way to hopefully getting us progressing. Tickets for home games would need to be very cheap to entice supporters to attend but at the same time they know if the home games are worth credits then can play on fan loyalty.

The way how we've failed to close games out recently I'm not confident we will get two wins from the last two games anyway.

If we don't make it hopefully the rumours of the two friendlies arranged in Germany will appease us slightly!

What are people concerned about? The key word is recruitment.

For a club with nothing to show for since 1995 we can't exactly turn our nose up at any chance to win a trophy.

If your owners are willing to spend there's a transfer window to sort the squad out and get the right players in whatever competition you're in.

The problem last time was everyone was totally misaligned as to who to bring in, three number 10's ffs. Rooney was a Kenwright homecoming vanity project, Klaassen was a Koeman obsession and Sigurdsson was problably Moshiri looking to flex his muscles.

Do it properly like Villa.

I really struggle to understand the viewpoint that it's not worth qualifying for. Our sole achievement as a club over the last 30 years has just been existing. We play the same teams year after year, get mostly the same results, and invariably finish midtable in one way or another. Even if nothing else Europe gives us a bit of a change from the normal routine, and it arguably offers the most likely route to a trophy. I just don't think there's any rational reason why we wouldn't want to qualify.
