Qualifying for the Europa or Conference league: is it worth it?

Should we be concerned with qualifying for the lesser European competitions this season?

Conference League carries about as much prestige as the Intertoto Cup - a bum competition for what in European terms are bum teams.
You reckon ? West Ham fans enjoyed themselves and rightly so .

I’ve seen Everton win plenty of trophies and I’d likely celebrate that conference league more than Rotterdam .

This too cool for school mentality when we haven’t won a trophy in 30 years kettles my head

You can't deny timing in anything in life.
Squad is now in a proper rebuild imo compared to the false dawns over the last decade.
The Conference league would be an unwanted distraction and lead to desperate signings. Qualifying for Europe next season is a different story
The defeatism in this fanbase is unparalleled in world football. How about we get in it and try and win it? Or should we just leave such gargantuan achievements to truly huge European behemoths like Crystal Palace or West Ham? Christ. Most of the teams in it are just good scores in Scrabble but we need another year of the Moyes drug “stability” before we even think of it?

Then what's the point of where you finish in the league? I get it's your opinion but you play the game to either win a cup (which gives you Europa & Conference leagues and they give you a solid chance of winning) or to win the league. We're not winning the league anytime remotely soon. If you think it's a waste of time then what's the point of the season?
It jeopardises our premier league status. Look at forest and palace this season, palace less so but still flirted with relegation for a bit and forest were right in it. Spurs will now be finished 17th two seasons on the bounce with European football, United last season. I’d rather not risk our chance of survival for such a little gain.

Or your shout of defeatism is paralleled with delusionalism.
Realistically we don't have the squad strong enough to handle all the competitions, that's not going to change in the next window unless we get very very lucky...and without putting the club back in the poo we were in. Yeah let's risk that with the decks knowingly stacked against. Yeah let's go for the king hit, defenceless, than boxing smart.

A betting man would tell you our PL standing will suffer, ie we will not get 7th or above playing Conference League. So back to where we are...or worse.

What we need right now is a good to very good window and a proper run at the cups, with proper rotation of a strengthened squad throughout the season - without the distraction, logistics and otherwise, of the conference league.

Being better placed and knowing the importance of timing is anything but defeatist.
And mate, don't compare us to West Ham or Palace. We should be playing a different game to them. Any other club outside the privileged would've been relegated. When we get back up it won't be Conference League we'll be hunting for - that's Everton.

Nope. Same amount of places.

If they win Europa:
If they finish 4th -
6th Europa league
7th conference

If they finish 5th
6th Champions league
7th Conference

FA Cup win for City would add an extra European spot. (As it would if Chelsea win and finish top 7)

Where does the Europe league spot go?

Yeah for a while I didn’t follow this but you’re spot on , we need to win both and hope others don’t but feels unlikely .

Getting 9th when 8th gets you Europe feels on brand for us . I remember under big Joe losing out to Villa on the last day and there will be plenty of others I’m sure .

if we are ever to find a way back to the top table then Europe is a crucial step.

I’m not comparing us to Palace. Palace get to Cup Finals.

Here’s the thing. There’s a bench full of players who barely get a look in under Moyes. We will be signing more players in the Summer (hopefully the money will be better deployed this time) and we could quite easily manage the Conference League with the players we have and who are coming in. We usually get knocked out of the other cups early anyway under this manager so it’s not like we are overloaded with games. A proper shot at the Conference League and winning it gets you into the Europa. Give me an 11th place finish and a European trophy and Europa qualification over a 7th placed finish next year any day of the week.

Because of the last 30 years there are whole generations of blues who’ve never seen us win a trophy , trust me it’s magnificent .

You look at city or the RS winning another trophy after another is boss but that first one is unreal . Palace , West Ham and the horse punchers all know and I don’t care what anyone says winning that conference would put the celebrations we’ve seen from others to shame .

Yeah, I don’t understand why some would think any different. It’s puzzling.

It’s maddening. No wonder we are laughed at as “trophy dodgers”. There’s fans worrying about us entering a competition in which the Final this year will be contested by two clubs who have won one major honour between them in their entire histories.

Hopefully we’ll lose the last two games and secure some lovely “stability” rather than actually trying to achieve something for once. I honestly give up.

Conference gives us a platform. It would be like Ipswich winning the Texaco Cup under Robson.

I’m sure people will think differently of Palace if they win the FA Cup and Conference back to back. Hell, they’d probably have been out of the Europa by now.
