Qualifying for the Europa or Conference league: is it worth it?

Should we be concerned with qualifying for the lesser European competitions this season?

Since the end of the Second World War - 81 years - this club has won 8 trophies. And half of them were in a golden period between 1984 and 1987. And here we are - in 2026 - debating whether it’s worth qualifying for 2 supposedly winnable Cups. The Kenwrightification of this club is now embedded in the brickwork. Let me know if you think Palace or Villa fans consider it “worth it” in the next couple of weeks.

Or we actually win something?????!!!

30+ years without a trophy and our fans keep turning their nose up as close to a sure thing and anyone can hope for.

Absolutely mental fan base
Conference League carries about as much prestige as the Intertoto Cup - a bum competition for what in European terms are bum teams.

Great to know that we have yet to reach a level to qualify for a bum competition for bum teams, what does that say about us as a club?

For teams that have ambitions to play CL football in the future, the Europa League and Conference League provide clubs like us that would not have the squad strength and depth to deal with the extra fixture load.

Hey @Alan Whittle, is it worth it?
It certainly feels worth it for Palace just now. Less so when losing at home to Larnaca in December.
Context is everything, this is our first ever European tournament and after the disappointment of demotion from the Europa League we just set out to make the best of it.
A team with a successful European history may not feel as enamoured by the thought of Europe's third string trophy which ironically, in this country at least, will be considered even more tin pot if Palace win it simply because " the likes of" Palace won it.
Positives; it will attract better players.
Negatives; it will have a damaging effect on Premier League performances and consistency.

I'm fascinated, as always, by the varied opinions of posters around what counts as a successful season - some argue Europe as a must, others think 10th is a good upward curve from previous years.

Equally there's some corners of this fine forum who argue the Europa and Conference leagues are Mickey Moyes competitions and worthless. There's an argument, not one I subscribe to, that Europe can affect league placings or domestic cups.

So, friends, what say you? Better to be competing in Europe, or focus on a cup and cracking to 4? Or other, non-binary, choice?
Given the wealth differences between the PL and everyone else, it seems as good a chance to win a trophy as we're likely to get. Obviously, it seems to have an impact on PL performances, but winning something must surely be worth it.

Yeah? Tell that too west ham, Chelsea, roma, olympiakos and soon to be palace.

I couldn't give a flying monkey's if it was called the "mikey mouse" cup and it was sponsored by netto. If it puts a end to the 32 year cup drought, i want to see us win things.

Its a European cup, its extra revenue, its extra games for squad players and its also a way to get back into Europe by winning it to get into the Europa league.
