Qualifying for the Europa or Conference league: is it worth it?

Should we be concerned with qualifying for the lesser European competitions this season?

Europa yes, Conference no. Winning the Europa League gets you into the UCL. That should be the main goal of the club. Conference League would probably be more of a annoyance until later rounds.
I hear ya but for me, I'd rather be in the conference league. We could actually win that one and I'd love to see another trophy before I die.

We won't qualify for either this season.

8th is the best we can go for, and even that requires minimun 4 points and hoping Brentford and Chelsea drop points.

It's highly likely Brentford beat Palace this weekend. Chelsea against Spurs could go either way.

Their other fixtures are Liverpool away for Brentford and Sunderland away for Chelsea — both unlikely wins.

I doubt Fulham beat Wolves away, so beat Sunderland and we'll finish minimum 10th with 8-10 positions decided on final day.

Sadly, I think Spurs beat us comfortably, and we're too far off getting near the goal difference of Brentford and Chelsea. 11 conceded in the past 5 games has done us in there.

9th would likely get that Conference League spot. Maybe that would increase the chances of the board spending more this summer?

8th would likely get Europa League assuming Villa in the Europa League against a poor Freiburg. We'd need to beat Spurs for that.

Massive, massive difference between the two competitions.

We'd certainly be in a relegation battle this time next year if this is the squad sent into next season.

After this latest performance, or lack thereof, I have no reason to think we're going to manage anything so I'm not even thinking about it.
Yep. We're certainly not deserving of it and the players, having been in an absolute golden position just weeks ago, under the management of Moyes have really let down the fans big time.

We need to forget about "where we were two seasons ago" and instead "remember where we were two months ago" — it's a disgrace how standards have slipped at the wrong time... under the league's most experienced manager as well.

Its a winnable trophy and one that would be far more memorable than an FA Cup or League Cup win.

FA Cups probably rated higher, but its alot more fun & memorable following your team all over Europe.

The squad wouldn't be too stretched with some additions playing in it and we could still push on in the league

I'm fascinated, as always, by the varied opinions of posters around what counts as a successful season - some argue Europe as a must, others think 10th is a good upward curve from previous years.

Equally there's some corners of this fine forum who argue the Europa and Conference leagues are Mickey Moyes competitions and worthless. There's an argument, not one I subscribe to, that Europe can affect league placings or domestic cups.

So, friends, what say you? Better to be competing in Europe, or focus on a cup and cracking to 4? Or other, non-binary, choice?
Of course it's a good thing, we're not ready yet though
2027-28 bring it on
