He played more than that game in the World Cup though.

But agreed in him as a keeper. Frankly, I wouldn't put him ahead of a couple of the US keepers in terms of all time greats, but he was pretty good when he first came to Everton. Inconsistent tho.

Friedel was our best. WC 02, he was absolutely brilliant. Howard, despite the odd blunder was good for a pretty long time though.

The thing that always bothered me with Howard is how far out he would move on shots from the edge of the box so that any deflection pretty much automatically went in

Those that like him will say he had the record and poisitioned himself very well to make those saves, which he honestly did if were looking at the angles he took. Those that don’t will say what you said, even though positioning is part of it.

Howard was a good player until his decline and he was here 2 years too long. Then everyone like you turned on him, and fair enough. He had to go. If you look through the Howard thread though, including some of your own posts, bar the last two years he was here there’s the odd negative post but most of it’s positive.

This whole thread is pointless. Howard left years ago already. We might just as well have Pickford vs Martyn, or Pickford vs Robles. Or Richarlison vs. Pienaar.

I will dig through the vaults though as this kind of conversation is annoying and I’m bored.

I can remeber one single game where at the end I thought “ wow he played well today and without him we would have lost” it was spurs 0-0 years ago. For someone that was here for how many years? That’s not good enough. Pickford although not world class like some here think, is still streets ahead of Howard

Imagine us having Howard in goal last season.. Before Sam turned up, we would defo have been in a real relegation battle. Would even of struggled with Sam and his uber defensive style

It’s both as he was generally in the wrong place 90% of the time.

One of my most hated Howard moments is the praise he gets for that save at home to Southampton when Pelle nearly lobbed him.
It was an unreal save. An unreal save that he should never have had to make of he’d been in the right place to start with.

God I hated him in our nets soooo much for soooo long.

Not sure I’d agree totally.

A lot of good saves come from defensive errors. Howard’s generally came from him being bad and in the wrong place.
