You're not helping yourself here.

The truth is finishing 7th is the same as finishing 17th. You finish 1st, that makes a difference, you finish in the CL spots that makes a difference, you finish in the bottom 3 and that makes a difference.

Otherwise, not so much.

What midtable clubs are judged on is the other stuff, cup runs, derbies, quality football, exciting kids that sort of thing. If those are there than a season where you finish 14th feels much better than one where you finish 8th.

Anyone not willing to swap our last season with the RS's? Who wouldn't give up that one place in the table for a trophty, two cup finals and three derby wins?

Come on.

I was alive when we last won the league. I would like to be alive when it happens again.

You'd better pray that we win the Arab shiekh lotto then mate because the going price for the PL title is roughly half a Billion sterling these days.

Our budget is beyond the managers control btw

Of course not. But if winning a cup is such an amazingly hard thing to do that it's unreasonable to expect it how come a crap manager like mcleish did it?

Utd, City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, Birmingham, Pompey, 'Boro, Blackburn and the Sh!te, are the 10 teams that have won the 22 (English) finals since 2002. The teams in bold have all been relegated and the others have spent Vastly superior sums to Everton. I agree we should do better but it's not like we exactly surrender, we've just under-performed, but as I say, it's not exactly a level playing field and the outsiders that have won aren't exactly basking in glory now are they?
