He's defo saying the right things. I'll give him another couple of seasons to see where we're at before I judge him.

He's had nowhere near as long as Bill had yet people love him and he stalled our progression for over a decade.

Nah he made no promise on anythign mate, new stadium etc, just a lot of politician style speak about udnerstanding, will strive and full support and udnerstanding what the fans want etc. But nothign that should things go tits up he could be called upon at all.

He mentined for example the financial restraints as a major problem hlding us back this summer due to the regulations only allowing a 7m increase witht he rest needing to be through commercial imprrovements to revenue, yeah all very true, excpet the fact he ommits, which is as soon as we sold Stones all of that became irrelevant and we had a massive ability to icnrease our spending by 50m or thereabouts not 7m (in wages terms btw) so any one not clued up on STCC will go away thinking we did our best when in fact it was an utrter shambles and one that we got fed through bvarious means as a good reason we have to sell one of the prized assets.

Next summer IF we sell Lukaku for example the exact same excuse will be reeled out - allowing us to strengthen, player wants to leave and we can't risk losing him in two years for nothing, promsies where given him to keep him anothe ryear etc, all sounds plausable, but how would those consecutive seasons of selling a 50m+ asset and basically spending that on incomigns with nothing really else be different to the mdel Southampton etc use which is buy to sell, it doesn't differ at all, it's just span differently but in essence it is the same

As for revealing how much we have to spend etc, will let the actual sums tell that tale, net spend on players this season - les than 10m, counting the cut of Stones we had to give Barnsley, all very well and god saying about Koulibaly, and the other failed transfers, but you don't have to spend money when you don't sign the player, so it's all irrelevant
I'll need to listen to it again. I thought he said he was committed to a new stadium, which to me is the same as a promise.

Take what you say about STCC but again, I heard that as underpinning the need to move to a new larger stadium to increase our match day and commercial income. I can understand how you took it completely differently, especially in light of his things have changed since Chelsea/Man City comment.

At the end of the day mate it boils down to whether you believe his comments were made with genuine intent or whether he's just giving us a load of bull. It'll all come out in the wash eventually I expect.

Came across well and seemed to know his footy - I liked what I heard and will try to remain positive and optimistic for the future.

Yep. And for all the stick he got, looks like @The Esk was right all along.

I'd love to see his detractors and those who constantly tried to oust him at least offer an apology. We've literally had that information straight from the horses mouth now.

However, the main point is Grouch - as you rightly said - turning those nearlys into signings.

That being said, as Moshiri commented, it's not like any of them have set the world alight (bar Koulibaly).

Or not...

Not really, said that Koeman had 7 targets and then went into detail about who those where.

No mention of Mata or Witsel at all or several others mentions by ITK's

The funny thing is, only Koulibaly was the one mentioned that was put out by the ITKs.

Perez and Gabbiadini were in the newspapers first. Mata and Witsel, as you rightly say, not even mentioned as being on the list of seven.

and no one called Gueye, Williams, Stekelenberg or Bolasie before it hit the mainstream news either.

tbf i was told that Sissoko was a target by someone - but told to keep stum about it at the time.

But Mata and especially Witsel - not one mention of by him, which is super odd considering he went into detail about Sissoko who lets face ity is half the player and who chose Spurs not Juve ahead of us - which actually sunds way worse

Good to hear him say things like we got 4 players who we wanted, then named the 3 we didnt get, instead of not naming them etc,no wonder we didnt get that defender when they wanted 60 mil,as honest as you can get

The problem is with this is where we are in the grand scheme of things, people can moan and complain why we haven't bought this and that but it's going to be extremely difficult to make a giant leap forward in 1/2 windows.

There are 6 other big clubs in the premiership alone, not even counting the league champions and next season we can probably add Newcastle to the mix, all will probably be seen as step ups compared to us. This is before we start going around the other top leagues around the continent.

Are you including Newcastle in that? If so I disagree. Other than the fact that they get 50,000+ crowds as they have a better stadium, don't share their city with the RS and offer far cheaper tickets, what else do they have over us?

I don't agree that they are a bigger club personally but we have lost out to them enough when going for the same player so I'm basing that on recent historical evidence.

I agree there was a lot of froth in there and as I said in my original post it was very contrived and planned.

You obviously wanted shut of the previous regime mate but seem to take issue with the fact that a very rich man is trying to do that. Can I ask you what you think the alternative might be?
The alternative would be for this very rich man to start investing in this squad.

Personally I dont care for his inexactitude (Sissoko/McCarthy contradiction), his boasting about dealing with early obstacles (he hasn't), his pointing the finger at managers past and present on Stones when he is the ultimate decision maker on major sales because of the FFP situation as it affects this club, or his choice of disseminating info/spin via a clown.

if we were in for those two, it may be a case that he was just mentioning the ones we missed out on on deadline day (or close to), as players we were much closer to getting. We could have missed out on about 15 other players, it wouldn't have painted us in a good light if he rattled off tens of names we failed to attract to the club. Nice of him to acknowledge the transfer failings imo.
I know naff all though, just a theory.
