I don't get it though. What evidence is actually there to suggest he's capable of turning it around next season and having us fighting for Europe again? We'll have several key players leaving, Tom Cleverley coming in, Gareth Barry and the Scottish Zidane still starting every game. But yeah, it's going to magically click into place one day![Poor language removed]
My long standing point. People have continued to maintain that Martinez has the ability to turn it around next season with his own players.
I would once say I tended to disagree. Now I almost certainly do disagree!
If he has been unwilling to change his approach this season, even though it has repentantly not worked, why would he then adapt next season?
While they may help vitalise the team, a summer break and a few extra signings are not going to alter Martinez's approach to football.
That is where the problem actually lies; his underlying philosophy began to degrade and is now crumbling at its foundations.
We're still going to be a shambles defensively as it's proven that it is not an area where he believes we should focus. Player choice is also woeful.
Furthermore, I'd expect us to still on a weekly basis attempt a floundering approach to scoring: meekly and ineptly attempting to pass our way.
This isn't a 'I love
Moyes' comment either, but the mental qualities the squad clearly showed over numerous seasons have dwindled away.
Martinez last season gave us great times for which I am grateful, however I now believe that may have been merely a purple patch.
If he'd approached things differently then I may have more sympathy, whereas repeating the same approach even though it doesn't work...
... So long, farewell...
