Personally i think Villa a re a bit of a basket case Matt is right they loose money hand over fist and its unsustainable, their costs far out weigh their income. In fact they make about the same as us, but spend wildly. They have an ageing squad, the need to sell their best young players. There basicly in the same position as us with a worse debt porition that i cant see getting any beter. The management of the club has to be taken into the context of when Learner took over. Villa were debt free when he assumed power. They now have 130 mill in debt with little to show for it - certainly no more then us when you break it down to on the feild success.

They are facing in to one of their worst years financially, they are going to take about 8-10mill on placement money in the PL from 6th last season. Martin O Neill is sueing them for breach of contract which is likely to be another five million. They wont be in Europe this season which is another 5-8 million and if they get rid of Houllier thats about andother 5 mill. While having to give a new manager a contract - Moyes is on in and around 4 mill a season.

Now i know that people are banging on that Learner is a billionaire but with the financial fair play sniz they are are in a really poor financial predicament. As i have said a number of times.

Overall if you look at it we are by far heathier then they are, its unsustainable. Brum could also be in big trouble if they go down today, as i said almost a year ago. Frankly i believe those two Brum clubs are the most vulnerable financially in the league.

I can understand why they would go for Moyes, they want him to do a job on limited resources there as he did here, its hard to see what Moyes would get out it if im honest.

Moyes said on friday he,s not going to villa, thats good enough for me.

And before people say something like, he said lescott wasnt leaving either, its an entirely different matter when he,s talking about himself. Surely he knows what his plans are, so if there was any truth in the villa move he would have just swerved that question from the journo.

Do you realise just how much Villa's going to have to cut to break even?

33% or 1/3 off of their wage bill !

FFS.

I know. But all that will happen in the foreseeable future is that they'll sell Ashley Young and probably Downing, keep half the profits, reinvest the rest, get rid of deadwood high earners and flounder around 10th in the Premier League for the next five years.

For the third time, not minted, but not skint, and definitely not on the verge of financial meltdown. You seem to have a perverse desire to convince everyone Aston Villa are the next Leeds, and everyone who doesn't think so somehow think Villa are minted and about to win the league.

There's an area in between those two stances!

Yuuuuuup.

Celtic, Manchester United, Arsenal or Chelsea, or Spurs at a stretch. Otherwise, he's staying put - everywhere else is a sidestep or a downwards step.

But what, Everton's future is sustainable?

We've not had a net spend transfer window for years; the club are currently making it plain that there'll be no change in that trend this summer; the debt has been stated to be a concern by the club chaiirman and CEO; the club auditors will only sign off on an extension to the club's overdraft facility on a 6 month review basis.

Everton Football club is every bit the basket case you say Villa are.

Unbelievable.

IMO yes, because we dont follow the route of mismanagement of Villa, our finances are sustainable, its not entertaining and its glass ceiling stuff - i cant see us progressing to title contenders, but neither will Villa, i wouldnt swap our situation for Villas if im honest.

It scares me when people really would prefer, Learner, Yeung or Venkey at our club.

I'd rather have Lerner than BK. Lerner has put money into Villa, BK has put er... his fat arse into his seat and a few soundbites out now and then.

I've just realised Sharpy has popcorned us.

Throws out a wild rumour, points to a disclaimer excluding himself from any fallout, agrees to disagree with HP Fox, then opens a bag of Butterkist...

Thats scary and harsh mate.

Villa in five years have gone from 0 debt to to over 110 mill. Their debt to turnover ratio in about 120% ours is 50% essentially they owe more then they can make.

They make about 80mill a year, we make about 80 mill a year - yet we havnt aquired 110 mill pound worth of debt in five years, have Villa been more successfull then us in that period in footballing terms or just signed more players? In that sense which is the better run club on and of the field.

That 110 mill where does it come from in five years its a bit of a myth that Learner ploughs money into Villa, hes taken on debt. They lost 37 mill this year to put that into perspective our total debt is 43 mill.

My biggest worry with us mate is that whilst our debt is comparatively small, we're not going anywhere. It's building and it needs repaying, but we're slipping.

If Everton had one terrible season and got relegated -- unlikely, but imagine a season without the regular late surge -- we'd never recover. That debt would go from seeming okay to unmanageable. I'd half expect us to go into administration and die.

At the moment we're taking no risks, and reaping no rewards. I think I'd rather see us role the dice, go into a bit more debt, but bring in some fresh blood. I'm not content with mediocrity, and that's what we're heading for. And as I said, the thought of relegation... it doesn't bear thinking about. It may seem unlikely, but imagine if Moyes left and we got a crap replacement? Villa did that and left it late this season -- at one point relegation looked possible. And had they not signed Bent, it may have become reality.

So maybe Lerner isn't that great, but it's what he represents; SOMETHING. Our current owners do nothing. Invest nothing.
