No I never saw that mate. I wish I had and I'd have been on here singing their praises. As I said in my Gee Walker post, we need more people like this promoting unity in the country.

I fully agree that we should be getting these girls in front of the cameras and the media should also be playing those scenes over and over. You just know they won't though. Burning flags makes much better news

Yes for sure. There needs to be a serious debate about Churchill, the flag etc too. A debate where "traitors" and words like that are left out. We've had 10+ years in schooling now of uncritically promoting British history, it doesn't work and it's insulting (not least to those we are promoting). If he were alive today, I'm sure Churchill would not want some of his blemishes white washed (mind the pun).

I am not in favour of defacing statues, and Churchills role in WW2 should be worthy of enormous praise. I have a similar thing with Cromwell, lots of remarkable things, but also awful things. I think we have to be more nuanced how they are taught.

Well in the midst of a pandemic that has claimed 40,000 lives in this country - yes.

Why are people not protesting at the countless lives lost in middle east conflicts? In Africa?

Or is it because its out of sight out of mind as the media dont want to know?

Its complete brainwashing and people fall for it all the time. You are basically told what you need to be angry about and if you dont get angry about it or question it then you are bad.

When you have Anthony Joshua who has white people who travel around the country/world supporting him tell people to stop buying in their shops maybe question is the elite run media really asking for peace or is it pushing for further division?

I or most people couldnt give a toss what colour you are - if you are angry at the elite then make a stand - but dont turn it into anti British white vs black BS as thats when you lose alot of support and become just as bad as those you seemingly are fighting against.

I don't think its a question of it being right or wrong though.

Common sense dictates that most people think the situation is bad, people should not be out on the streets right now and people certainly should not be smashing things up.

The difference is the level of understanding though. I don't agree with it happening but I totally understand it. It's an incredibly emotive subject and the whataboutery fuels the flames just as much as the things that you mentioned. In any instance in life when you are so angry or pissed off about something and someone turns around and says what about someone else it naturally annoys you.

I suffer a lot of pain in my life as I have a condition that makes every inch of me ache for example, and sometimes I will bring it up with someone just to have a bit of a rant about it annoying me and its not fair that I have to deal with it, the one thing that will piss me off greatly is when someone else says "Oh yeah, I have a sore toe sometimes in the morning" or something like that. That person is not listening to me and is diverting it onto something else, ergo my problem does not matter.

I know that's not the greatest example but hopefully it makes sense?

Nope. It's life or death. These protestors have completely ignored the threat their actions pose to 2 million shielding people who now are slowly being allowed to come out of isolation.

Well lots of the protesters were socially distancing. I didn't go on the protests for the reasons you mention, but if Robinson and his goons are there on Saturday I am very conflicting. Either way, if you're black, you experience racism, you see the police behave with continued impunity and never face charge for murdering people in custody, a President outlawing the protesters in America as terrorists who need shooting, in this country VE celebrations, Brexiteers rubbing their noses in it about how the crimes of Britain don't exist and any question of that they get told to leave the country etc.

Then you get idiots on beaches fighting, the government telling you that it's ok to drive to other paces to test your eye site and lockdown rules never existed and were advisory, people having street parties and conga lines, schools opening, football returning, pubs opening, shops opening etc. All this can go on, but as a black person you're not allowed to go and voice your frustration at what is essentially an execution on camera, on broad daylight, as other officers watched him do it. It's not going to wash with people, rightly or wrongly. Why should it be only black people, protesting racism that are singled out?

meanwhile a pandemic rages on....

And more so for some ethnicities.

I find it quite telling that you're not prepared to call out the protesters for breaking large gatherings rules, but are all over a tweet from the PM for seemingly agreeing to them protesting because it breaks the law. There is a word for that.
I find it quite telling that you're infinitely more bothered about property than you are about lives...

*Wait, where have I said that?* Will be your next post

And I will reply in similar manner to your suggestion that I am not prepared to call out protestors when I have throughout this thread and even within the last 5 minutes.

Stop trying to work yourself up.

I think we all should read this link before lauding Great Britons.
Having previously lived in St Paul’s for 3 years, and as someone who’s planning to move back post covid, I can guarantee that the majority of public opinion in Bristol will be “good riddance to that statue” further to that there have been numerous calls for Colston Hall to be renamed.
My daughter lives in Bristol and tells me that they had a referendum about the statue. Only 45% wanted it removed.

Even the guardian know there’s some massive cognitive dissonance going on right now.
Im always wary acadmics who peddle their philosophical intellegencies for the coin which just happens to be accidental coincidence.

Also be wary of the Guardian in general, its not averse to accepting large sums of money for articles from all sorts of people, Governments and political parties...

I specifically said condemned them for breaking lockdown rules. If you have done and I missed it I will happily hold my hand up and apologise, as I always do when I've made a mistake.

Now where have I said property matters more than lives.?

Lives matter more than property. But it doesn't follow that people protesting over loss of life have a justified right to destroy property
