January Transfer Window 2026

Heard that McNulty talking about Rayan the other day. He said he’s a talent but could really struggle with the premier league. More of a striker/wide forward than a winger (basically crap in tight spaces but good in front of goal/space to run into).

We need something more proven I’d say.
PL experience you mean?

I think that's it mare, the three deals we defo pursued in the summer were Bakayoko, Fofana - the two didn't want to come and Kubo we walked away because of his clubs demands. We ended up with Dibling and Grealish.

So really if plan A is the three i mentioned and they arent available - then someone would need to be better in the medium to long term then Grealish and Dibling - which id suggest is unlikely in this window.
Think you're probably right, but of course this is where you hope your transfer team might prove their worth. If we're just looking at the players we wanted in summer it's going to really limit us considering the only one that could maybe be a possibility if we're being optimistic is Fofana.

For me an interesting option would be to sign a 10. We actually don't really have a natural 10 in the squad, Dibling will probably end up there but not for a bit, Alcaraz a better option off the bench than starter, KDH better as an 8.

Think to a degree its probably more attainable to get a good player in that position, considering most teams now play 3 conventional centre mids. Quite a lot of good young central attacking midfielders about atm who are less sought after than their equivalent wide players.

Good point, well made mate!

Have you noticed this season no one is really playing with a playmaking 10, it seems very out of vouge.

We need to get the guy who "discovered' Kante, mate :pint2:

It's been massively out of vogue since everyone started wanting their wingers to cut inside and shoot. Could maybe quietly be going back the other way atm though, Cherki looks like he will be the main guy at City behind Haaland, RS obviously went big on Wirtz, Odegaard very important for Arsenal and Palmer should be the centrepiece of that Chelsea team playing as a 10.

Compared to goal scoring wingers though, still much much less sought after and more attainable I would think. A lot of really good ones about atm as well who haven't got a properly big move yet. Mentioned Uzun at Frankfurt already, maybe unrealistic. Karetsas at Genk looks very good.

…..I’ve posted after each performance that Patterson did fine and we actually looked better balanced with a conventional RB in the team. Saying that, I still think he’s a poor defender, which is clearly why a succession of managers have avoided playing him. I understand why Moyes plays O’Brien over him.

I’m sure he’ll start on Monday, hopefully he plays well.
You understand why Moyes plays O'Brien over him despite the only two matches we've won recently, he has started.
I don't know eggs. I'm not sure you're seeing this one clearly.

My point is people (including Moyes) can have blind spots or prejudices against players and ignore what's right in front of their eyes because of it.
I wouldn't put it past Moyes to go right back to his favored back four given the chance despite the wins and clean sheets.

This is my opinion on Dibling and his purchase mate:

I think its getting in there and investing in them over a 3-4 year period, that part of the industry we haven't been part of in long, long time - so much so people just assume Tyler is a waste of money.

Many clubs invest not just for right now, but over 3-4 period. Spurs have done it with the like of Gray and Bergval. Villa did it with Rogers, Scott at Bournemouth, Brighton with everyone and Brentford/Palace with quite a few also.

When i look at our squad, i think that's what we are trying to do as a strategy - i dont believe Dibling was bought for this season - do i see a role -sure, but i dont think he bought with the intention of being relied on, i think he brought in for the medium/long term.

The make up of the squad is essentially purposely 50/50 after the summer - there is half of it approx from 24 -19. Then 50% approx 25-33. Thats not an accident IMO

In the 24-19 squad, the youngest are Armstrong, Dibling and Aznou - i dont expect much from them, Dibling is treated differently because of the fee, but hes really at the same developmental phase as Armstrong and Aznou - they are all a group for the next 2-4 years IMO.

That in my opinion why we invested in him and the strategy behind it. I think as a club we need to be doing that also.
you are partly right, but i think Armstrong is showing more than Dibling at the moment. Besides Dibling came with PL experience. Of course it is our own wrong doing we paid so much fio him while we dont have Man City budget. I would have expected a bit more though from him so far and i dont see him being anywhere near replacing Grealish at the moment

Think is the type of game, when we are playing a deep back line he's doing well, when we need to be on the front foot in games as we will v Leeds he can get caught out positionally.
