To see it that way would suggest that you are possibly not being objective about the current situation. Current being the operative word. Israel is cleary going to destroy the Hamas infrastructure and Hamas fighters so as things stand a pause and getting people out of the areas to be destroyed has to happen - as Hamas infrastructure is within and below the living areas of every man, woman and child.

What was the point of saying this if you knew Egypt was blocking that route out?


Does it matter who's blocking it now? It doesn't, because the fact is they cannot get out and Israel is bombing that route out at the same time they're directing the civilians there.

And you're cheerleading for them while they do it.

I have not framed Palestinians as a problem, they are innocents in all of this. Hamas is the problem…..

That is what today's media does. It does it in traditional outlets. It does it in right-wing media. It does it on YouTube. All of these profit-motivated companies that gatekeep access to what we see and hear actively want controversy, just as Pulitzer and Hearst did over a century ago. They determine what to put front and center on the basis of 'engagement', which is not just which things people click on, but how long they watch them for and how many comments.

Guess what gets the most views, viewing time and comments? Controversial stuff. They actively want people to watch, and to hate watch, political content. It makes them more money, because people watch more ads that way. Every time you share a Rachel Riley video, and someone else clicks on it, you are helping her build her brand, encouraging outlets to give her more airtime and pushing her up webpages. Every time you watch one, same thing.

This is part of why Elon Musk tearing down Twitter is such a big deal. If somebody summarized what she had to say, you don't have to watch. If they can't, you have to click on the video, which was the whole point of that little policy he tried to ram through.

Criticising her is more important than worrying about boosting her profile.

Thing is, Israel has encouraged the growth of Hamas to divide and conquer the Palestinians by splitting its political powerbase between Fatah and Hamas. This allowed Netanyahu to claim he had no credible and united Palestinian interlocutor to discuss peace with. That ordinary, innocent Palestinians should now pay the price of Israel's deliberate and misguided strategy because Hamas has bitten back is an untenable situation.

Israel will soon be a pariah state. Netanyahu needs to be removed immediately and replaced with people serious about a two-state solution. Then we can be united in finding ways to eliminate Hamas without murdering innocents and recruiting future Hamas fighters for them in the process.
